What you will be doing:
The Engineering Services - Agency Compliance Safety Engineer, is an exciting opportunity to provide critical feedback on product designs for new product development projects as well as operational projects to support cost reductions, factory transfers, or replacements of end-of-life components.
In this role you will work closely with the Engineering teams, our Asia Pacific teams, as well as the external third-party certification labs to ensure Helen of Troy productsremainsafe to consumers under all types of conditions.Activities will include defining theminimumrequirements for different product types from US and Canadian safety standards, hands on testing tovalidatedesigns in the Compliance Lab and working with andsubmittingtest data to third party Certification Organizations forend productCertifications.
- Work with new product development and continuing engineering design teams to ensure the electrical and mechanical designs are compliant with applicable safety standards
- Ensure safety critical components used in the productmeettheminimumregulatory requirements of the safety standards.
- Work with our Engineering and Asia Pacific teams to gather the required samples and documentation (ex. Schematics, mechanical drawings,owner'sguides, product and carton labels, model number) for Agency Certifications.
- Create project test plans based onthe productdesigns and applicable safety standards.
- Perform hands on testing in the lab, or work with technicians to ensure all product testing activities are completedin a timely manner.
- Gain qualifications with the certification organizations tosubmittest data under a third-party test data program for the US and Canada.
- Work within the guidelinesidentifiedin the compliance laboratory quality management systems.
- Prepares agency submission packages andassiststechnicians with tests and questionsin reference tothe Safety Standards.
- Request quotes and open projects with the certificationorganizationsas necessary.
- Ensure the testing and certification schedulealignswith the program schedule. Track and report progress weekly.
- Work with the certification agency toalign ontest standardinterpretationsas necessary.
- Review and answer questions about testing withthe engineeringteams.
- Review product rating labels, instructionbookletsand packaging to ensure compliance with the marking requirements from the safety standards.
- Creates and prepares Agency Release Notice (ARN) which enables the factory to prepare for production.Maintainsfollow-up e-mails concerning projects to ensure they stay on schedule.
- Receive Certification according to the program schedule from the Safety Compliance Agency for: All BU's Beauty / Health & Homes and Housewares per all Agency Compliance Standards within the Helen of Troy Satellite Program.Applicable standards may include: UL 499, UL 507, UL 746C, UL 859, UL 982, UL 998 / CSA C22.2 #104, UL 1004-1, UL 1004-2, UL 1004-3, UL 1030, UL 1054, UL 1082, UL 1097, UL 1278, UL 1431, UL, 1647, CSA C22.2 #0.17, CSA C22.2 #250.4, CSA C22.2 #46, CSA C22.2 #55, CSA C22.2 #64, CSA C22.2 #67, CSA C22.2 #77, CSA C22.2 #92, CSA C22.2 #113, CSA C22.2 #187, CSA C22.2 #189, UL 60335-1, UL 60335-2-8, CSA C22.2 60335-1, CSA C22.2 60335-2-9, UL 61058-1, CSA C22.2 60335-2-15, CSA C22.2 60335-2-23, UL 4200A
- Maintain andensureall CEC (Un-listed Components) are tested andsubmittedfor annual evaluation.
- Understand and follow the Helen of Troy Quality Management System as it pertains to the Safety Agency Compliance requirements.
- Keepcurrent onstandards,regulationsand certification requirements.
- Ensure Instruction Manual, cartonartworkand Graphics for all BU's meet the test standard requirements.
- Works with NPD on DFMEA and DQTPS for all BU's ifrequired. Prepares schedules and oversees laboratory work activities.Performs actual work similar to technicians when required.
- Work in creating orassistingwith internal Engineering Test Methods (ETM's).
Skills needed to be successful in this role:
- Able to communicate clearly, accurately, and concisely with other staff members.
- Providing clear and concise details when documenting the testing performed.
- Able to work under pressure and meet aggressive deadlines.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Associate's degree in engineering field.
- 2+years of experience working in a Laboratory environment performing tests according to safety standards.
- Solid experience with MS Office and Windows based software (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Hands-on experience with the use of laboratory equipment.
- Authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering.
- Additionalexperience working directly with Safety Certification Organizations, and in an ISO 17025 accredited laboratory.
In Massachusetts, the standard base pay range for this role is $82,170- $90,000annually. This base pay range is specific to Massachusetts and may notbe applicableto other locations. Actual salaries will vary based on several factors, including but not limited to location, experience, skill level, and performance. The range listed is just onecomponentof the total compensation package for employees.
