Position Summary

The Master Electrician is primarily responsible for the correctness and quality of the company's electrical installations provided by the Master Electrician to utility customers. Services are targeted to the residential and light commercial markets and ensure all local operation requirements, trade code compliance, and company standards are adhered to. This position is responsible for performing the installation, removal, modification, inspection, and/or service of Direct Load Control (DLC) devices while exhibiting safe, courteous, and helpful behavior while maintaining compliance and company standards.

The Master Electrician shall always renew all relevant certificates and licenses in Washington state as required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain all required safety protocols, documentation, permits, and inspection forms in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations prior to beginning any electrical work.
  • Develop a strong understanding of the program's strategic goals related to demand response and energy efficiency.
  • Promote demand response programs to customers and maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and professional appearance.
  • Install, inspect, modify, and service Demand Load Control (DLC) devices; assemble load control receivers for field installation.
  • Identify and resolve project application issues in collaboration with key stakeholders and trade allies.
  • Apply electrical and mechanical principles for installation, maintenance, and troubleshooting including air conditioning systems.
  • Inspect installed energy devices and equipment to ensure compliance with building and electrical codes and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with team members to continuously improve operations and service delivery.
  • Conduct inventory counts and submit accurate reports.
  • Maintain assigned fleet vehicles ensuring all safety equipment is present and vehicles are clean and organized.
  • Participate in the on-call rotation for after-hours service; perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Position Requirements

Education and Experience
  • High School diploma or equivalent required
  • Advanced electrical expertise, including NEC compliance, blueprint interpretation, wiring schedules, and complex calculations (conductor sizing, load analysis, etc.)
  • Technical aptitude and experience in electrical installations, alterations & repairs, manual labor and using industry specific tools required
  • Preferred background in at least two of the following areas:
    • Building science and envelope design
    • Weatherization or related fields
    • Home inspection
    • HVAC installation, lighting, controls, or renewable energy
    • Smart home technology and smart device applications
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
  • Must have and maintain Master Electrician certificate for the state of Washington
  • Strong customer service and communication skills both verbal and written with customers, stakeholders, and colleagues
  • Expertise in NEC compliance, blueprint reading, wiring schedules, and advanced electrical calculations including box and conduit fill and load analysis
  • Ability to define and lead training support needed for all program staff working under the electrical license
  • Detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to prioritize workload
  • Skilled in data analysis, problem-solving, and interpreting electrical code intent
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Reliable transportation

Travel Requirements
  • Willingness to travel up to 95%
  • Travel within the Pacific Northwest or other areas of the country for training and team meetings
  • Occasional weekend travel may be required
