Requirements: The
Dental Assistant must have and meet the following:
Degree/Education: - Candidates must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent
AND successfully complete ONE of the following established pathways:
- Graduation from a Dental Assistant training program accredited by the Commission
on Dental Accreditation (CODA) of the American Dental Association (ADA).
- Graduation from a recognized Military Dental Assistant/Technician training
program.
- Graduate from an American Red Cross (ARC) Dental Assistant training program.
- Possession of an active, unencumbered Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) credential
from the Dental Assisting National Board (DANB)
- Equivalency Determination Request: The Contractor may request an equivalency
determination as a substitute for education requirements on this labor category. Such
requests will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the Government.
Experience:
- Candidates must possess a minimum of twelve (12) months of full-time
clinical experience as a Dental Assistant within the preceding thirty-six (36) months.
- Candidate must also possess documented training and proficiency in oral/dental anatomy;
dental therapeutics; sterile techniques; dental materials; infection control procedures;
radiation physics, biology, and protection; and digital radiographic processing techniques.
Job Summary: - Assists the dentist at chairside in all phases of complex/difficult restorative, prosthodontic,
oral surgical, endodontic, and periodontal treatments.
- Performs authorized intra-oral procedures as directed by the provider, including taking
preliminary impressions for study models, removing sutures, and placing/removing rubber
dams, perio-packs, matrix bands, and wedges.
- Pours and trims models from impressions and constructs custom impression trays.
- Relays the providers post-treatment instructions to patients and provides standardized
education on proper dental hygiene, appliance care, and decay prevention.
- Operates dental X-ray equipment to capture diagnostic quality intra-oral and extra-oral
radiographs.
- Performs routine maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on digital and traditional X-ray
equipment.
- Strictly adheres to DTF infection control protocols. Sterilizes instruments, materials, and
equipment.
- Prepares surgical trays and maintains the dental operatory in a clean, sterile, and operative
condition.
- Monitors supply inventory, identifies needs, and coordinate with the logistics/supply chain
department to order materials.
- Receives and schedules patients for treatment. Conducts patient follow-up and appointment
confirmation calls.
- Performs proper verbal or written handoff of each patient to the appropriate department
(e.g., Medical Support Assistant (MSA) for scheduling, or the Specialty Referral Office).
- Obtains and records the patient's medical history. Accurately charts examination findings,
treatment information, and prescriptions within the electronic dental record.
- Maintains a variety of recurring administrative reports related to clinic operations
