The Opportunity
We are currently seeking a Design Engineer I - Water/Wastewater to join our Louisville, KY or Akron, OH offices.
What You'll Do:
This role is ideal for an early-career civil engineer who is ready to learn more about designing and delivering public and private infrastructure projects. You will contribute to the planning, design, and permitting of water and wastewater systems for municipal and private clients, including distribution and collection systems, pump stations, storage facilities, and treatment plants.
Key Responsibilities:
- Support the planning, design, and execution of water and wastewater infrastructure projects.
- Prepare engineering design documents, plans, specifications, calculations, and technical reports.
- Assist in developing planning documents, design reports, and permitting packages.
- Follow established technical guidance and apply industry-standard approaches for W/WW infrastructure.
- Coordinate with senior engineers and project managers to develop solutions and maintain project quality.
- Participate in project meetings and communicate directly with clients and stakeholders.
- Support proposal preparation and assist in compiling technical content.
- Track project schedules, deliverables, and quality-control procedures to ensure deadlines are met.
- Coordinate with subconsultants, agencies, and internal teams as required.
- Provide peer review support or assist with independent technical reviews.
- Address routine client questions and help troubleshoot basic project issues.
- Build and strengthen relationships with new and existing client contacts.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
- EIT required; PE license or pursuit of PE is preferred.
- Experience working with municipalities or public-sector clients on infrastructure projects.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD, Civil 3D, and Microsoft Office.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Detail-oriented mindset with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
- Desire to learn, grow, and contribute within a collaborative engineering team.
