Position Description
Job Summary:
The Director of Major Projects is responsible for the strategic oversight and growth of Penhall's Major Projects group. This leader will drive revenue growth, ensure operational excellence, and develop a high-performing team. The role includes accountability for project strategy, estimating, execution, and customer satisfaction across large-scale, complex commercial construction projects. This position requires deep experience in commercial construction, including project management, estimating, and client relations. The Director will collaborate across departments to align major project execution with business goals and drive consistent, profitable outcomes.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the Major Projects division, overseeing project planning, resource allocation, execution, and client satisfaction.
- Develop and implement growth strategies aligned with company objectives.
- Drive performance through proactive oversight of project estimating, budgeting, and execution.
- Mentor and develop Project Managers and field leaders, fostering a strong performance culture.
- Partner with Business Development, Estimating, and Operations to pursue and secure high-value opportunities.
- Monitor project progress, risks, financial performance, and customer satisfaction.
- Establish and track KPIs to ensure quality, safety, and profitability on all major projects.
- Provide executive-level reporting on pipeline, forecasts, and performance metrics.
- Ensure consistent use of project management tools, scheduling software, and cost tracking systems.
- Maintain high-level client relationships and represent the Major Projects team in key meetings.
- Lead process improvement initiatives and ensure compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by your manager or other leadership.
Position Requirements Required Skills and Abilities:
- Proven leadership of large-scale commercial construction projects from preconstruction through execution.
- Strong understanding of project controls, estimating, scheduling, and risk management.
- Exceptional leadership, coaching, and team development capabilities.
- Financial and operational acumen, including forecasting and budget oversight.
- Excellent communication and client-facing skills.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and construction management software (e.g., Procore, MS Project, or similar).

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or a related field; advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of commercial construction experience, including project management and estimating.
- Prior leadership of major or complex construction projects with cross-functional teams.
- Demonstrated success in revenue growth and team development.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting and working on a computer.
- Ability to travel frequently to project sites and regional offices.
- Occasional physical site walks, requiring mobility in a construction environment.
