Job Summary
The Director of Judicial Clerkships is responsible for planning, development, and implementation of programs, counseling, resources, and support for students and alumni interested in pursuing judicial clerkships of all types. This full-time position reports to the Associate Dean for Career Services.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements comprehensive clerkship support and services for law students and alumni in various stages of their education and professional development.
  • Advises and counsels students and alumni on their career development, choices, and opportunities with primary emphasis on judicial clerkships.
  • Provides detailed information and guidance on application procedures for summer, school-year, and post-graduate positions.
  • Supervises the Assistant Director of Judicial Clerkships and Advising, the Judicial Clerkship and Communications Coordinator, and the Writing Coach.
  • Maintains records to assist the Career Services team in providing comprehensive services to students and alumni and in fulfilling internal and external reporting obligations.
  • Tracks and analyzes statistics regarding clerkship applications, interviews, and hiring.
  • Assesses and regularly updates clerkship resources in the career resource center, on the clerkship web pages of the Law School website, in Simplicity, and other communications.
  • Supervises the administration of the judicial clerkship listserv and drafts frequent informational materials for dissemination to this listserv group.
  • Cultivates and expands employer relations, networking, and publicity to increase opportunities for students, particularly within the judiciary.
  • Pursues involvement and education through NALP, including membership in the Judicial Clerkship section.
  • Develops and provides judicial clerkship and internship programming. Assesses and evaluates the effectiveness of programming and workshops.
  • Develops, expands, and promotes resources in the area of judicial opportunities for students and alumni.
  • Oversees the Judicial Internship Program.
  • Provides administrative support for the Edward H. Levi Distinguished Visiting Jurist Program.
  • Serves as the staff liaison to the faculty Clerkship Committee.
  • Represents the Law School and the Office of Career Services to internal and external audiences.
  • Conducts complex job search and career management related large lectures, hands-on workshops, special events, training programs, and one-on-one career coaching sessions. Acts as a lead resource for and directs students to other career resources as needed.
  • Analyzes markets and trends as they relate to job searches. Assesses student feedback and evaluations and collaborates with other career services staff members, student organizations, or other staff to determine program offerings and innovations.
  • Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:
Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field.

Work Experience:
Minimum requirements include knowledge and skills developed through 7+ years of work experience in a related job discipline.

Preferred Qualifications

Education:
  • J.D. or Master's degree strongly preferred.

Experience:
  • 5+ years of experience providing career or recruitment services to law students, lawyers, or others in a legal profession strongly preferred.

  • Demonstrated competency in developing efficient and effective solutions to diverse and complex problems.

  • Excellent computer skills including proficiency with Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet research, and databases.

Working Conditions
  • This position is available for partially remote work based on the business needs of the Law School.
  • Ability to work occasional evening, weekend, and early morning hours.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
