Job Description:
The National Insurance Producer Registry (NIPR), an affiliate of the National Association of Insurance Commissioners (NAIC), is seeking a dedicated individual for the role of Director, Product Management. NIPR is a not-for-profit technology company that provides cost-effective, streamlined, and uniform licensing data and compliance services for insurance professionals. Together with the NAIC and the insurance industry, NIPR protects and serves insurance consumers. We are a licensing and compliance resource for insurance professionals, providing expertise, agile technical solutions, innovative tools, and data to support the changing needs of state regulators and the insurance industry.
NIPR is based in Kansas City, Missouri. This is a full-time position which will allow a person to work remotely within the United States or hybrid in NIPR's physical office space in Kansas City, MO.
Position Overview:
The Product Management Director provides leadership, vision, and direction for NIPR's product team. This role is responsible for achieving long-term product strategy, standardizing product management processes, and ensuring consistent, high-quality delivery across multiple product lines. The Director serves as a critical cross-functional leader and represents NIPR's products and value proposition to internal and external stakeholders, including regulators, industry partners, and clients. The position reports to the Senior Director, Product & Communications.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategy and Operational Effectiveness
- Represents NIPR's product portfolio and capabilities in external meetings, presentations, conferences, advisory groups, and partner engagements.
- Builds and maintains trusted relationships with state insurance regulators, carriers, associations, technology partners, vendors, and strategic collaborators.
- Provides mentorship, guidance, and management support to Product Managers and Product Owners, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and excellence.
People Leadership
- Lead and develop a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and supporting professional growth through coaching, development plans, and recognition.
- Model and uphold company values in all interactions, encouraging trust, accountability, diverse perspectives, psychological safety, and mutual respect.
- Attract and retain top talent by participating in hiring, onboarding, and career development efforts that promote employee engagement and retention.
Process Standardization & Portfolio Management
- Establishes, implements, and continuously improves product processes, tools, templates, KPIs, and governance structures to support scale and operational transparency.
- Partners with Process Excellence, Engineering, Regulatory Affairs and Business Development to streamline cross departmental workflows, dependencies, and deliverables to ensure successful product delivery and support.
- Ensures the product lifecycle-from ideation through retirement-is managed using mature, repeatable, and measurable processes.
- Ensures clear understanding of customer needs and regulatory requirements to guide prioritization and development decisions.
- Aligns product priorities with technology capacity, operational readiness, and organizational strategy.
- Oversee performance tracking across the product portfolio, ensuring consistent measurement of adoption, satisfaction, quality, financial impact, and team throughput.
Minimum Education and Experience:
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.
- Five or more years of management experience.
- Ten or more years of product or process management experience.
Preferred Experience:
- Ability to influence across the organization, build consensus, and maintain strong relationships with cross-functional partners.
- Experience working in insurance, regulated environments or with government/regulatory stakeholders.
Skills and Abilities:
- Deep understanding of product management frameworks, roadmap development, discovery practices, and agile methodologies.
- Proven ability to standardize processes, implement governance structures, and scale product operations.
- Must have superior communication skills and possess excellent political acumen.
- Ability to effectively communicate NIPR's mission and product portfolio in a clear, straightforward manner across a variety of audiences including customers, regulators, legislators, members of industry, and team members.
- Strategic, forward-thinking and results oriented.
- Creative problem solver with superior analytical skills.
Travel: Expected to travel up to 50% in this role which includes traveling to new or existing clients, training, seminars, and trade shows.
Compensation:Starting at $175,000 up to $200,000, commensurate with experience and education.
