The Senior Engineer II will establish policies, procedures, and standards and is responsible for the activities related to an assigned organizational element, program, project, or task. Will normally plan, conduct, and supervise engineering design reviews and analysis assignments involving a major project or several smaller or less complex projects. Due to their complexity and difficulty, these projects require the fully competent application of conventional knowledge in a particular engineering or scientific field. Project work and assignments may be broad, requiring ingenuity and cross-functional coordination.

Schedule and Location:

  • The position has a hybrid work schedule consisting of Tuesday through Thursday in the office. Monday and Friday provide the option to work remotely or from the office.
  • This open role is located at our modern ten-story corporate headquarters in Spring, Texas.
What You Will Do:
  • Provide technical expertise on project tasks under the supervision of a project manager to ensure quality services are delivered on schedule and within budget.
    • Assist with defining and sequencing tasks, estimating durations, and developing project schedules.
    • Develop and review PFDs, P&IDs, material and energy balances, and process equipment sizing/specifications.
    • Perform hydraulic calculations/pipe sizing and relief valve sizing/specification.
    • Lead/support hazardous electrical area classification (EHAC) studies.
    • Participate as a subject matter expert in Damage Mechanism Assessments, Corrosion Control Programs, and PSM activities.
    • Contribute to/facilitate Process Hazard Analyses (HAZOP), FMEA, Risk Assessments, RCAs, and What-If reviews.
    • Use process simulation software (e.g., ASPEN, HYSYS or similar).
    • Prepare briefing materials, technical reports, conclusions, recommendations, and client presentations.
    • Conduct research and data analysis, including customer/stakeholder analyses.
    • Track and report project hours and perform quality assurance on deliverables.
    • Work with individuals at all levels, manage multiple assignments, meet deadlines, and adapt to changing client needs.
  • Develop relationships with existing and potential customers to support business growth.
    • Attend client meetings to discuss technical topics and understand client needs.
    • Communicate client needs to business development, project managers, and supervisors.
    • Identify new business opportunities and support proposal development (level of effort, cost estimating, and writing).
    • Participate in marketing and growth initiatives (conferences, technical papers, networking).
    • Support team development (resume review, interviews, feedback) and selection of new technical software platforms.
What You Will Need:

Education and Experience
  • Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering (BSChE) or equivalent required.
  • Minimum of 8 years of field/plant (energy, chemical, oil & gas, and/or renewable) and/or consulting experience preferred.
  • Technical experience in:
    • Relief device sizing calculations (API 520/521/2000).
    • Electrical Hazardous Area Classification (NFPA).
    • Other PSM/Mechanical Integrity activities.
  • Relevant technical certifications.
  • Professional engineering license desired (or ability to obtain within 3-5 years).
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge and understanding of OSHA 1910.119 Process Safety Management (PSM), including Mechanical Integrity (1910.119(j)).
  • Familiarity with PSM and Mechanical Integrity program requirements.
  • Experience developing proposals, including deliverables lists and resource estimates.
  • Ability to mentor and develop engineers.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements, codes, and standards, including:
    • API, NFPA, ASME, OSHA, EPA, NACE, DIERS, CCPS, AIChE.
  • Proven experience providing technical expertise in a project team/consulting environment.
  • Strong data gathering, analysis, and critical-thinking skills; ability to manage complex problems and tight deadlines.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint.
  • Working knowledge of the ABS Quality, Environmental, Health & Safety Management System.
Reporting Relationships:

This position reports to a Senior or Manager level position or above.
