Job Description
We are hiring an experienced Field Scientist in our Environmental, Health, and Safety practice group. The individual will be based in northern Minnesota working with clients to complete their projects on time, on budget, while exceeding expectations.
Responsibilities
- Perform asbestos-containing materials, lead paint, and other miscellaneous hazardous materials inspection along with the preparation of detailed regulated waste inventories.
- Perform Environmental Site Assessment reconnaissance and conduct building material sampling and regulated waste inventories
- Perform moderate to high complexity field tasks and associated field reporting with minimal oversight
- Oversee asbestos, lead, and other remediation efforts and coordinate monitoring and testing services to attain regulatory compliance
- Oversee and/or perform regulated waste removal services
- Coordinate and direct field personnel and contractor personnel.
- Prepare and document daily waste logs, waste receipts, shipping papers, landfill receipts, recycling certificates, and/or disposal tipping receipts for all regulated wastes recycled or disposed.
- Train junior level field team members
- Conduct screening of soil and groundwater for various environmental impacts
- Demonstrate understanding of construction-related activities and associated safe-work practices
- Document test results and reviews test data for accuracy and completeness
- Travel to local and regional project sites
- Assist with data collection and tabulation
- Assist regional environmental staff as needed to manage team workload
- Collaborate closely with other members of the firm, listening to the client's needs, and developing solutions to meet their needs.
- Work with project manager and client to ensure project objectives are met
- Work with clients to help them develop or maintain IH and Safety compliance programs.
- Build and foster relationships with clients, vendors, and partners through excellent project work.
- Perform technical work and supporting project deliverables on a variety of industrial hygiene projects including:
- Indoor air quality assessments (mold, VOCs, CO, CO2, etc.);
- Employee exposure assessments;
- Noise dosimetry and sounds pressure level surveys; and
- Chemical exposure assessments;
What We'd Love to See in You - BS degree or higher in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health/Safety, Public Health, Environmental Science, Safety or Chemical Engineering, or related field.
- 7+ years of direct environmental experience in industrial hygiene, health and safety, and/or regulated materials.
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of industrial, energy, and commercial clients.
- Demonstrated knowledge of hazardous materials and regulated waste assessment and inventory.
- Asbestos certification or licensure (MDH Asbestos Inspector and Supervisor), lead training or certifications, and similar certifications (radon, mold, etc.)
- Microsoft suite proficient
- Detail-oriented, motivated, analytical thinker, problem solver with a driven work ethic.
- Proven leadership skills with experience mentoring junior staff.
- Strong desire to help build and grow a client base through diverse business development initiatives.
- Excellent communication and critical thinking skills.
- Valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record.
- Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) Asbestos Inspector preferred.
- MDH Asbestos Site Supervisor preferred.
- MDH Asbestos Air Sampling preferred.
- NIOSH 582 equivalency course preferred.

Compensation Range:
$55,000.00 - $82,000.00
