Basic Job Functions:
The Human Resources Generalist supports the day-to-day operations of the Human Resources Department across our Arthur, IL and Terre Haute, IN locations. This role serves as a trusted resource for teammates and leaders, supporting benefits administration, teammate engagement and development, recruitment, attendance and time management, production bonus administration, and teammate relations. The HR Generalist is pivotal in helping management and teammates understand policies, practices, and protocols, and plays a hands-on role in ensuring HR processes are completed accurately and consistently.
Benefits Administration
- Provides support, guidance, and direction to teammates regarding benefits programs.
- Orients new teammates to available benefits during the onboarding process.
- Processes new hire benefit paperwork, open enrollment, and qualifying event changes.
- Assists in coordinating benefit open enrollment meetings.
- Processes claims for workers' compensation, STD/LTD, and unemployment.
Attendance & Time Management - Serves as the company's primary resource for tracking time and attendance, ensuring accuracy and consistency across all locations.
- Monitors the daily completion of attendance tracking by leaders, following up to ensure timely and accurate submissions.
- When a teammate incurs an attendance policy violation, drafts the appropriate written documentation (e.g., verbal warning, written warning, final warning) for the responsible leader to review, sign, and deliver to the teammate.
- Coordinates the full attendance documentation process to ensure it is completed correctly, consistently, and in a timely manner-acting as the process owner while leaders retain responsibility for teammate delivery and relationship management.
- Partners with leaders to ensure compliance with attendance policies and advises on proper documentation procedures.
Production Bonus Administration - Oversees the weekly production bonus file, an Excel-based tool completed by production leaders.
- Ensures the weekly production bonus file is fully completed, accurate, and submitted on time each week by coordinating with production leaders and following up as needed.
- Identifies and resolves discrepancies or missing entries, escalating issues to HR leadership when appropriate.
Recruitment - Provides support for recruitment and selection of teammates across all positions.
- Participates in onboarding new hires by conducting background checks, new hire paperwork, and I-9 processing.
- Participates in activities with local school districts, colleges, and universities to strengthen C.H.I.'s presence and contributions to the community.
- May assist with career and job fairs.
Teammate Engagement & Development - Assists in the performance review process for teammates, including scheduling and attending alignment meetings and reviewing assessments.
- Works with supervisors and the management team to monitor the performance management process, including identifying and addressing performance issues and supporting the development and implementation of performance improvement plans.
- Assists in the planning and execution of teammate engagement events and activities.
Teammate Relations - Guides supervisors and managers in resolving complex teammate relations issues and may conduct related investigations.
- Assists with employment verifications and other verification inquiries.
- Stays current on the company's organizational structure, policies and procedures, benefits, and applicable federal and state employment laws.

Compensation Data Starting Base Salary Range: $64,251-$99,674ROA Bonus
ROA Bonus percentage is variable, determinate upon company performance each year, up to 33% of annual salary.
Profit-Sharing
10% of Nucor's pre-tax earnings are contributed to the Profit Sharing Plan annually and distributed to all eligible teammates. A large portion is deposited into your profit-sharing account, and a smaller portion is distributed in cash. Current 6-year average = 19.88% of your eligible earnings. Eligible earnings include regular pay, overtime, and bonus.

Minimum Qualifications: - Associate's degree or two years of equivalent work experience in a Human Resources or related role.
Preferred Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field.
- Excellent multi-tasking skills with the ability to handle multiple priorities and demonstrate flexibility.
- Experience with Excel-based reporting or data tracking tools.
- Prior experience coordinating HR compliance processes such as attendance tracking or policy documentation.
- Familiarity with time and attendance systems.
- Bilingual in English and Spanish
