The Adult Basic Education for College & Career ESOL (English to Speakers of Other Languages) Instructor (part-time) is responsible for the development and implementation of career-contextualized basic skills instruction to prepare adult learners for success in college and career. This position will be responsible for providing career-contextualized English language instruction in reading, writing, listening and speaking at all proficiency levels.

The duties and responsibilities of the Instructor position place the highest priority on providing outstanding educational opportunities for the community and promoting an effective learning environment for the students of Pima Community College. The Instructor delivers instruction using a variety of methods and modalities, prepares instructional materials, and integrates technology to support student learning. The Instructor evaluates student progress and revises teaching approaches based on assessment data and learning outcomes. The Instructor also refers students to appropriate testing, advising, and support services, and participates in ongoing professional learning and peer collaboration to improve student outcomes.

Instructors are expected to conduct all duties and responsibilities with integrity and in accordance with all applicable federal, state, and local statutes and the College and program's policies, procedures, and regulations. Instructors may have involvement in academic and student disciplinary matters as referenced in the Student Code of Conduct and the Academic Integrity Code .

The work schedule for this position is flexible and may include the ability to work varied schedules that may require evenings and multiple locations

About Temporary Employment:

This position has 3 vacant positions and will establish a qualified applicant pool for part-time temporary positions. Applications will remain active for 6 months to a year and selected candidates may be contacted as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise. Placement in the pool does not guarantee employment. The applicant pool will be refreshed annually.

Temporary applicants may be hired for specific assignments or placed in an applicant pool for future opportunities, depending on enrollment levels and business needs. If selected from this pool of applicants, candidates contacted will receive details regarding the specific assignment and will have the opportunity to confirm interest and availability.

We are seeking dedicated part-time temporary employees to join our qualified applicant pool. Selected candidates will be considered for placement as positions become available or when immediate staffing needs arise.

Part-time temporary roles offer flexible scheduling and the opportunity to support a diverse population of students in achieving their educational goals.

  • Provides instruction and conducts classes within the scope of a course of study defined by the department, meeting all assigned classes with adequate preparation and professionalism and fostering a welcoming and inclusive learning environment
  • Delivers career-contextualized instruction integrating workforce preparation skills, computer literacy, and civics into class lessons using a variety of methods and modalities, including in-person, virtual, and/or HyFlex formats; interacts with students in demonstrations and adjusts teaching styles to meet the needs of a diverse student population
  • Adheres to published class schedules by meeting and teaching all assigned classes and, when unable to conduct assigned class(es), works with supervisors to identify appropriate options, such as arranging a substitute or delivering instruction through an alternate modality, to ensure instructional continuity and required course credit hours
  • Prepares and maintains instructional materials, lesson plans, class presentations, assignments, and evaluation instruments for assigned courses or disciplines
  • Provides students with course requirements, attendance policies, grading and assessment criteria, communication expectations, and office hours and availability information through the syllabus
  • Administer standardized and formative assessments: assess student needs and goals; determine student placement in program; evaluate student skills; and assess student progress for program continuation or completion
  • Responds to student communications within a reasonable timeframe, not to exceed 48 hours for email, excluding weekends and holidays
  • Refers students to appropriate College resources, including counseling, advising, and supportive services, to support student success
  • Maintains academic and student records as required by the College, external accrediting bodies, and/or funders Ensures compliance with applicable federal, state, and local statutes and College and program policies, procedures, regulations, and official requirements in the performance of assigned duties
  • Participates in program review and related evaluation or self-evaluation activities, as appropriate to assignment
  • Completes required training offered by the College, including online and/or face-to-face training, and completes all mandated annual training required by state, county, or federal agencies
  • Attends instructor meetings and other College, campus, department, discipline/program, or committee meetings when possible
  • Performs all other duties and responsibilities as assigned or directed by the supervisor
  • Bachelor's Degree in a related field
  • Three (3) to Five (5) years of teaching or other related experience
  • One year of experience teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Arizona Department of Education Adult Education Certificate or the ability to obtain the certification within sixty (60) days from the date of hire

OR
  • An equivalent combination of certification, education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above


Special Condition of Employment:


Preferred:
  • Three (3) or more years of experience teaching Adult Basic Education with a focus on ESOL
  • Knowledge of Adult Basic Education learning theory, principles and methods
  • Experience developing career-contextualized, standards-based curriculum and learner-centered approaches to instruction in the area of English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)
  • Knowledge and application of organizational and time management principles
  • Knowledge and application of various instructional methodologies
  • Knowledge of assessment, evaluation, and testing
  • Ability to learn and use educational technology
  • Skills in effective communication (both written and oral)
  • Skills in organization, coordination, and management
  • Skills in public speaking
  • Skills in team building
