Job Description

Vertex is seeking an experienced IT Manager to lead our IT Engineering and Operations functions. This role will oversee day-to-day technology operations, manage the IT hybrid engineering team, and design scalable business solutions using off-the-shelf products, integrations, and modern cloud technologies. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical foundation along with the ability to collaborate across departments and deliver secure, reliable, and user-focused solutions.

Core ResponsibilitiesWork Product Creation, Project Management, Coordination with Team Members

  • Lead and manage a hybrid IT organization (internal teams and MSP partners), driving high performance, clear accountability, and a culture of continuous improvement aligned to business priorities.
  • Champion a customer-first service mindset across IT, ensuring delivery of best-in-class support and an exceptional end-user experience through responsiveness, empathy, proactive communication, and measurable service improvements.
  • Act as a technology partner with business, build strong relationships across functions to understand needs, influence outcomes, and deliver technology solutions that drive measurable business value.
  • Drive business value through technology, ensuring IT initiatives are aligned to revenue growth, operational efficiency, risk reduction, and user productivity.
  • Oversee daily IT operations including infrastructure, cloud platforms, service desk, and SaaS ecosystems, ensuring stability, scalability, and high availability.
  • Establish and enforce process-driven IT operations, including SLA-based service delivery, incident management, change management, and problem management to ensure consistency, transparency, and accountability-particularly across MSP partners.
  • Bring a high level of detail orientation and operational discipline, ensuring documentation, runbooks, system configurations, and processes are well-defined, maintained, and continuously improved.
  • Design and deliver scalable business solutions leveraging off-the-shelf platforms, AI capabilities, integrations, APIs, and automation to improve business workflows and user outcomes.
  • Own and optimize the Microsoft 365 ecosystem, including E3/E5, Entra ID (Azure AD), Defender, Cloud Apps, Exchange Online, Intune, and enterprise security policies.
  • Oversee Azure cloud environment, including compute, storage, networking, databases, and identity, ensuring secure and cost-effective operations.
  • Manage enterprise network infrastructure, including firewalls, VPN, and wireless, ensuring secure and reliable connectivity across locations.
  • Lead security and compliance initiatives, including vulnerability management, patching, endpoint protection, logging, and monitoring.
  • Support and advance SOC 2 compliance efforts, including audit readiness, control implementation, risk assessments, and security awareness programs.
  • Establish and enforce IT and Information Security policies, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  • Drive operational excellence through KPIs and reporting, developing dashboards and metrics that provide visibility into performance, service quality, and business impact.
  • Lead IT Service Desk strategy and execution, ensuring timely resolution, high customer satisfaction, and continuous improvement in support processes.
  • Lead cross-functional initiatives and M&A integrations, ensuring seamless execution, strong governance, and alignment with business timelines, budgets, and outcomes.

Qualifications & Competencies
  • Bachelor's degree and 8 years of related experience, a Master's degree and 6 years of related experience, or 11 years of related experience and no degree, and 4+ years of people management experience.
  • Proven experience designing and delivering business solutions using off-the-shelf applications and system integrations.
  • Certifications (must have one, but multiple preferred):
    • Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert
    • Azure Administrator / Solutions Architect
    • ITIL Foundation or higher
    • CISM
    • CISSP

The salary ranges for this role are as follows:

$98,000 - $265,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier AA - Sample Locations: NY Metro, San Franscisco, San Jose, Seattle)

$90,000 - $245,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier A - Sample Locations: Irvine CA, Middlesex NJ, Tacoma WA, Boston, Alexandria)

$83,000 - $224,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier B - Sample Locations - Baltimore, Chicago, Anchorage, Portland)

$75,000 - $204,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier C - Sample Locations - Atlanta, Charlotte, Cincinnati, Miami)

$71,000 - $194,000 USD annually (Geographical Tier D - Sample Locations - Mississippi, Mobile AL, Bowling Green KY, Tulsa)
