In this role, you'll be in the field collecting and analyzing air, soil, sediment, surface water, and groundwater samples; playing a critical part in projects that protect communities and natural resources. You'll maintain precise field documentation, execute work plans safely and efficiently, and help ensure compliance with environmental regulations. You'll also collaborate with project teams, contribute to meetings, and help communicate progress to stakeholders-gaining exposure to both the technical and collaborative sides of environmental consulting.

This position will report to our office location in Knoxville, TN.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

The Essential Duties and Responsibilities are intended to present a descriptive list of the range of duties, but not all duties performed for this position. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Performing routine geologic fieldwork, working under close supervision from field managers and project managers.
  • Fieldwork may include air, soil, sediment, surface water, and/or groundwater sampling and drilling oversight.
  • Maintain detailed and accurate field records, including field logs, boring logs, and sampling documentation.
  • Performing work in accordance with the work plan with agreed upon budget and schedule under supervision.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, client standards, and applicable federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Attending meetings and reporting on assigned project tasks.
  • Preparing progress reports for internal and external stakeholders.

Minimum Qualifications:

To perform this position successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The qualifications listed are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental Science, or related field.
  • Entry level (0-3 years preferred).
  • OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER certification preferred.
  • Valid US Driver's License required.
  • Ability to travel (Intermittently up to 60%), including on temporary assignments (up to 8
  • months), and work in various outdoor conditions.
  • Ability to work on Department of War and other government installations
  • Demonstrated superior work ethic

Additional Qualifying Factors:

As a condition of employment, you will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening (post accepted offer) and have acceptable background check results. If applicable to the contract, you must also obtain the appropriate clearance levels required and be able to obtain access to military installations.

This position requires the ability to maneuver around work sites, see, hear, and verbally communicate with co-workers and clients. Essential and marginal functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for bending, stooping, sitting, walking or standing for prolonged periods of time; frequent opportunity to move about and to work outside the office environment for extended periods involving exposure to the elements with weather that will include extreme heat, cold, wind, rain or other inclement weather, walking over rough and uneven surfaces, and routine lifting of up to 35 pounds. If required, must properly use personal protective equipment (PPE) at all times including but not limited to: hard hats, steel toed boots, eye protection, respiratory protection, and hearing protection. Must always maintain a constant state of mental alertness.

Working Conditions

Job is performed in a combination of office and outdoor site locations. The office setting includes exposure to computer screens and requires extensive use of a computer, keyboard, and mouse. Outdoor settings include walking, driving, and carrying supplies throughout all seasons with exposure to heat and cold conditions, and potentially wildlife. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals and loud noise.
