Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities

Attention to Detail:

  • Ensure accurate record-keeping, labeling, and filing of all shipping and receiving documents.


  • Conduct quality audits to verify the integrity of outgoing and incoming shipments.


Reliability (Attendance, Task Trustworthiness):

  • Must consistently adhere to work schedules.


  • Must be dependable in carrying out responsibilities to completion.


  • Demonstrate integrity and responsibility in all task executions.


Defect Finding:

  • Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of defects and their resolutions. Collaborate with relevant teams to report and address defects promptly.


Reliability (Attendance, Task Trustworthiness):

  • Identify, assess, and rectify issues with order creation, shipping processes, or any items received from upstream customers.


  • Address inventory issues promptly and effectively.


  • Ensure that defective items are not passed on in the process.


Parts Order Pulling:

  • Proficiently pull parts orders with ability to train team members.


Order Packing:

  • Competently pack basic and regular shipments and provide training to others in this area.


  • Exhibit expert-level skills in packaging various orders, including pallets and crates. Achieve a high output level (specific metrics to be determined) and provide training to others.


Shipping Orders:

  • Process UPS and FedEx domestic orders through the respective shipping software.


  • Ensure that all packages have correct labeling and postage before dispatch.


  • Execute international shipments using various carriers like UPS, FedEx, and DHL.


  • Handle manual shipping procedures when automated systems are unavailable.


  • Capable of shipping items from various locations, including Wabtec or UK orders.


  • Able to create freight shipments as needed.


  • Possess expert-level ability in handling and shipping hazardous goods, particularly sensors. Train others as needed and coordinate with the Radiation Safety Officer (RSO) on specific functions.


RMA (Return Material Authorization) Receiving:

  • Proficient in handling Return Merchandise Authorizations (RMAs) and capable of training others in RMA processes.


  • Master the RMA (Return Merchandise Authorization) process, including handling sensitive items.


Receiving:

  • Skilled in the receiving process, with a comprehensive understanding of inventory locations.


  • Proficient in processing diverse types of shipments efficiently.


Fork truck Operation:

  • Safely operate forklifts for the movement of large and heavy items


  • Capable of operating forklifts skillfully and providing training to team members on material handling.


HAZMAT (DOT) TRaining:

  • Maintain a current DOT hazmat training certification and adhere to all safety guidelines


  • Ability ship and receive hazardous goods safely


  • Proficient in shipping and receiving hazardous goods shipments, ensuring compliance with DOT standards.


  • Maintain up-to-date DOT hazmat training and ensure compliance with hazardous material transportation regulations.


Inventory management:

  • Oversee and update inventory records and conduct periodic audit


  • Contribute to maintaining accurate inventory records and assist in periodic inventory counts as required.


  • Collaborate with the Inventory team to manage inventory effectively, ensuring accurate counts and timely updates.


SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: yes - assists in the direction of work and assignment of labor.

Education and Experience Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.


  • 7+ years of experience in a production or manufacturing environment, with a focus on shipping/receiving/warehouse process and previous lift truck experience.


  • 3-5 years in a lead role responsible for the direction of others' work.


Skills and Abilities

  • Organizational skills: Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and prioritize workload to meet deadlines.


  • Ability to teach others with compassion and understanding that all people learn differently


  • Previous experience in shipping and receiving roles


  • Valid fork truck license


  • Knowledge of DOT regulations


  • Effective communication and training skills


  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.


Working Conditions and Physical Demands

Lead Material Handlers typically work in a manufacturing or production environment. This may involve working in a factory or warehouse setting to perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The Lead Material Handler position requires the ability to perform manual dexterity tasks, including using hand and small power tools, and may involve lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling heavy objects or equipment. The work may also require the ability to reach, bend, stoop, climb, or crouch to perform warehouse tasks. The successful candidate must be able to fulfil these physical demands with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to lift 50 lbs. Ability to stand for extended periods. Ability to safely navigate lift trucks around others in a manufacturing environment.
