Description

PURPOSE

Under the supervision of the Utility Supervisor, maintains the housekeeping of the various areas of the plant.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• General plant cleanup
• Visually inspect belts and equipment
• Assist with kiln repair jobs
• Check and service mobile equipment
• Assist with loading clinker into railcars
• Clean buildup in rock hoppers and raw mills, feed-end kiln hoppers
• Help maintain water and drainage systems
• Help maintain plant landscaping
• Assists with kiln repairs when needed
• Other duties as assigned

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

• High school diploma or GED
• Ability to read, write and verbally communicate in the English language.
• Must be able to read & understand operations and maintenance manuals, drawings, and schematics.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

• Minimum of one (1) year experience in cement or related industry preferred
• Complete vehicle inspection forms
• Pass required physical examination and drug screens
• Preferred knowledge of all types of equipment used in the manufacturing of cement
• Knowledge of hazards associated with areas of responsibility
• Ability to use a shovel (sometimes overhead onto a conveyor), broom, and wheelbarrow
• Ability to operate jack-hammer weighing 40 lbs. sometimes in the overhead position
• Ability to operate a bobcat, fork-lift, trash truck, and dump truck
• Able to read and understand the operating manual for mobile equipment operated
• Able to use a brick saw, lay brick, and build forms in a clinker cooler
• Able to open and close rail-car doors using bars and sledge-hammer
• Must be able to work on top of railcars wearing safety lines
• Must be able to work closely around moving equipment and machinery
• Must be able to operate weed-eaters, lawnmowers, and other light equipment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Lift up to 30 pounds
• Visual acuity, speech & hearing, hand & eye coordination
• Walking, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, crouching, kneeling, pushing, pulling, reaching, twisting, balancing, repetitive motion, driving, and squatting to perform the essential functions of this production labor position
• Must use proper Personal Protective Equipment as required

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in all weather conditions, including heat, cold, ice, rain, and high humidity, and is required to work in all plant environments. Incumbents will be exposed to vibrating equipment and mechanical and electrical hazards and heights. May have exposure to dust, cement, clay, gypsum, sand, diesel exhaust, lubricants, solvents, various fuels, etc. (See MSDSs)
