Job Description
Maintenance Technician I/Maintenance Technician II- The selected candidate will be placed in either the Maintenance Technician I or Maintenance Technician II role based on qualifications, demonstrated skills, and relevant experience.

SUMMARY:
Performs maintenance duties necessary to maintain building components such as windows, screens, blinds, shades, carpet, tile floors, and ceiling tiles; assists customers with hanging items securely on office walls.
Technician II level- performs advanced repairs and fabrication advanced repairs and fabrication duties utilizing copper and other metals as needed throughout the campus, including take-offs, layout, welding, and soldering.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL EFFORT:
Work involves physical exertion including standing, walking, bending, lifting, climbing ladders, and working in varying environmental conditions. Must be capable of safely using hand, portable, and shop tools required to perform assigned maintenance tasks.
Technician II- must be capable of operating equipment necessary to access high work areas such as ladders, personnel lifts, aerial lifts, and a bucket truck.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required for All Candidates:

  • Demonstrated problem solving skills
  • Highly thorough and dependable
  • Strong mechanical skills
  • Knowledge of proper fasteners and fastening methods as they relate to securing building finishes properly
  • Proficient in the use of hand, portable, and shop tools while following safety guidelines
  • Knowledge of workplace safety and OSHA regulations, building codes, and safe work practices
  • General knowledge of the methods, materials, tools, and equipment used in the building trades (construction, repair, and maintenance)
  • Proficient in the use of a metal brake to properly bend and form flashings
  • Proficient in the use of various types of welders and welding techniques
  • Required- Must have a valid Driver's License and be able to produce a driving record with a minimum of 3 years of driving history in good standing.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Maintenance Tech I:
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • 2-4 years of general maintenance experience, preferably in an institutional or commercial setting

Maintenance Tech II:
  • H.S. Diploma or GED required
  • 4-7 years of general maintenance experience, preferably in an institutional or commercial setting
  • 4-7 years of experience in metal construction, fabrication, repair, and maintenance

WORK HOURS:
  • Full-time; Non-exempt position
  • Schedule to be determined based on department needs

SALARY STRUCTURE:
  • Maintenance Tech I- Pay Grade 3 ($16.81 to $19.75 per hour)
  • Maintenance Tech II- Pay Grade 4 ($18.18 to $22.72 per hour)
