Position Overview:

The role of the Engineering & Test Manager is to manage a diverse group of engineers in support of Manufacturing Operations and to lead discussions with customer representatives. This will involve having expert knowledge in system design, cable performance, network element functionality and component engineering, as well as in-depth knowledge of Manufacturing Operations and processes. This job requires an individual who is a current manager or a high caliber engineer who can adapt those skills to a managerial position.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide measurable input to the objectives and goals of Manufacturing Operations
  • Demonstrates expertise by integrating Lean theory and principles into organizational practices
  • This position requires a high degree of ingenuity and innovation
  • Adaptability to technological advances

  • Initiates cross-functional collaboration
  • Provides directions for the engineering staff
  • Approves test strategies and test plans
  • Collects and analyzes quality metrics
  • Provides Customer interface to Manufacturing Operations
  • Evaluates the technical competencies within the engineering team, aligns skill sets with operational requirements, and identifies areas for development. Implement targeted training programs to close skill gaps and enhance team performance.
  • Drives continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities for innovation and process optimization.
  • Provides strategic support in capacity planning activities, contributing to data analysis, resource alignment, and long-term operational scalability as needed.
  • Supports the successful integration of new products into manufacturing operations, ensuring a seamless transition through effective planning, coordination, and execution.
  • Mentors engineering teams in critical thinking and systematic troubleshooting techniques.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide areas of development and recognize achievements
  • Confer with management or subordinates to resolve workplace issues
  • Direct and indirect supervision of process engineers, test engineers, engineering technicians and/or testers
  • Other duties and responsibilities as determined and assigned by Subcom leadership


Qqualifications

  • B.S. in Electrical, Mechanical or Physics, plus 10 years of experience, advanced degree is preferred (MS / MBA)
  • Ability to drive teamwork in cross-functional disciplines
  • Excellent communication and coaching skills at all levels from the shop floor to top management
  • Proficiency and demonstrated ability to make independent, informed decisions
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point
  • Experience with LEAN Manufacturing principles
  • Strong communication, technical writing, computer, organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to influence business direction
