Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Manages all sustaining engineering and tooling staff personnel and associated activities.
- Develops and implements strategic engineering initiatives (i.e. single and multi-year plans) which enhance overall department productivity, supports ongoing growth of the business and reduces ongoing operating costs.
- Identifies and implements tooling strategies on a yearly basis that provides Cost Reduction opportunities for Value Plastics, Inc. (i.e. Low-Cost Tooling Supplier Alternatives, new Machinery & Equipment Technology, etc.).
- Creates and implements standardized engineering policies and procedures which enhance overall employee efficiencies. Continuously monitors application of these tools to ensure company standardization.
- Ensures that all personnel fully utilize company product design software and the company ERP system for engineering activities, project management, etc.
- Fosters a work environment which provides a safe and productive place for all employees.
- Conducts yearly personnel performance reviews and interim reviews as required.
- Establishes and manages yearly departmental goals, which are in-line with overall company objectives.
- Establishes and implements personnel training requirements as required.
- Creates and monitors appropriate departmental performance tools/metrics (i.e. Sustaining Engineering processes, Fault Reports, OTD of Drawings, OTD of Tools to Manufacturing, etc.) to ensure continuous improvement efforts are being achieved.
- Creates and maintains yearly departmental and capital budgets, and provides monthly updates to CEO.
- Develops and manages a Tool Room Scheduling system that ensures full utilization of all capital equipment, and supports on-time-delivery goals of new and repaired tools to manufacturing.
- Establishes and maintains engineering processes which ensure ISO compliance and mirror GMP practices.
- Establishes and maintains mold cost templates, and trains appropriate personnel to utilize these tools to create accurate cost estimates.
- Manages outside contract resources to ensure on-time delivery of quality products and services (i.e. Monthly OTD Metrics).
- Oversees the development and maintenance of appropriate work instructions and ISO procedures.
- Creates and maintains appropriate job descriptions.
- Mentors and/or coaches employees to achieve personal and professional goals and objectives as required.
- Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with Value Plastics, Inc. policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, planning, assigning, directing work; rewarding and disciplining; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
- Available to work on weekends, holidays or off hours to support development and/or production requirements.
Non-Essential Duties & ResponsibilitiesAll other duties as assigned either written or verbal.
Education and Experience Requirements
- A Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical/Manufacturing/Industrial Engineering from a four-year college or university is required.
- Minimum of five years of engineering management experience within the plastic injection molding industry is required.
- Minimum of ten years of experience in a manufacturing environment is required or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have previous experience in managing multiple disciplines.
- Familiar with GMP medical design and manufacturing principles.
Preferred Skills and Abilities
- Must have a minimum of 10 years of experience in the plastic injection molding industry.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience serving in an Engineering role within the plastic injection molding industry.
- Must have a minimum of 5 years of experience with cold and hot runner molds.
- Must have a thorough working knowledge of standard tool making equipment (i.e. EDM, Vertical/Horizontal Machining Centers, Grinders, etc.).
- Must be able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and understand the application of geometric tolerances.
- Must be able to successfully use inspection devices (i.e. microscopes, calipers, gauge pins, non-contact measuring equipment, etc.).
- Must understand and be able to implement appropriate SPC (Statistical Process Control) tools.
- Well developed written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers and customers.
- Good analytical skills. Ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems. Ability to deal with non-verbal symbolism (formulas, scientific equations, graphs etc.) in its most difficult phases. Ability to deal with abstract and concrete variables.
- Ability to apply mathematical operations to such tasks as frequency distribution, determination of test reliability and validity, analysis of variance, correlation techniques, sampling theory and factor analysis.
Computer Skills:
- Proficient in use of one or more of these software tools (i.e. AutoCAD, Solid Works, Solid Edge, Pro-E, Gibbs etc.) is required.
- Proficient in use of typical desktop hardware and software (i.e. Dell/Compaq, Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.). Ability to efficiently and rapidly use advanced Word and Excel functions to meet the productivity requirements of the position.
- Proficient in use and navigation of Windows operating system in a networked environment. Ability to use advanced functions in most standard office applications.
- Upon completion of training, employee must be able to successfully navigate through VOXware (i.e. ERP System).
Travel:Up to 15%
Base Salary/Hourly Range for this position is: $120,000 to $155,000 annually, and bonus target is 10%; shift premium may be available depending on shift associated with the specific job opportunity. Benefits including Medical, Rx, Vision, Dental, and Health Savings Account (HSA), Retirement and Security benefits including 401k and Life Insurance. In addition to Paid Time Off and paid Holidays, each employee receives 16 hours paid time each calendar year to perform volunteer services for Nordson-sponsored events.
