Job Description

Position Summary

The Business Unit Manager (BUM) is responsible for the direction and coordination of all manufacturing activities for one or more of the plant manufacturing units or a product Line. Key objectives of the BUM include producing scheduled output, achieving the current profit plan and achieving quality standards. To do so, the BUM must develop and maintain an employee relations environment which assures the full utilization and development of both exempt and hourly employees.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Executes production schedule through production supervisors and group leaders emphasizing quality, assuring compliance is met with CGMP's and evaluates the optimal use of personnel, resources and equipment.
  • Develops and implements long range plans to improve performance in compliance, quality, cost, customer service, safety and employee well-being.
  • Prepares and implements annual financial and capital expenditure plans. Leads effort to continuously improve processes to allow the business unit to meet or exceed cost reduction goals.
  • Assure the existence of a positive employee relations environment with the business unit and ensures teamwork with other business units.
  • Acts as liaison with Corporate and other plants to coordinate activities and, where possible, standardize approaches.
  • Ensures compliance to all company and regulatory standards and policies.
  • Lead efforts to set and achieve production quality standards.
  • Assures timely and accurate manufacture of products to meet customer expectations.
  • Anticipates and reacts to equipment, material and labor issues to maintain continuity of optimal manufacturing operations.
  • Review and approves organization and personnel changes within the Business Unit.
  • Participates as a member of the Plant Staff to create leadership environment for the plant.
  • Directly supervises Business Unit Staff providing leadership, training, and development.
  • Effectively leads plant and/or corporate projects as assigned.
  • Works with Supervisors to assure that the training of all employees on all shifts is current and maintains employee discipline and performance.
  • Continuously monitors productivity, scrap rates and quality levels in order to anticipate problems.
  • Ensures compliance to all company and regulatory standards and policies.
  • Work on special projects as they arise
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required
Knowledge & Skills
  • Pharmaceutical or Hospital Product management experience - 3 - 5 years
  • Engineering Manager / Supervisor - Pharmaceutical or related field - 3 - 5 years
  • Production Supervisor - Pharmaceutical or related field - 3 - 5 years
  • Manufacturing Experience - related field - 5 - 7 years
  • Complete understating of production, quality and cost.
  • Very significant management experience in several businesses and most line and support functions combined with deep experience in one or more of the organization's most important line functions.
Minimum Qualifications, Education & Experience
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university is required.
  • Must have minimum of 5 years' experience, 7 preferred
Work Environment:
  • This is largely a sedentary role.
  • This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment.
  • Some exposure to manufacturing environment but minimal exposure to hazardous conditions or physical requirements.
  • Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required: Safety Shoes, Safety Glasses, Hearing Protection. May also be required to work in areas requiring additional gowning.
  • Typically requires travel less than 5% of the time
