The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Vanderbilt University is an inclusive group that strives to organize and present to the greater Nashville community stimulating intellectual and cultural noncredit courses, programs, and trips for adults over 50 of all educational backgrounds. OLLI focuses on the joy of learning. Interesting topics are explored with thought-provoking and engaging instructors, who are primarily active or retired Vanderbilt faculty, as well as other community experts. In a relaxed atmosphere, with no homework, tests, or grades, you have the opportunity to ask questions, contribute ideas, and interact with people who share similar interests. Duties and Responsibilities:
Key Functions and Expected Performance:
- Create engaging and innovative curriculum for courses that align with the interests and needs of OLLI members.
- Utilize your expertise to design interactive activities, discussions, and resources that promote active learning.
- Employ a range of teaching techniques, including lectures, discussions, group activities, and guest speakers, to create an immersive learning experience.
- Adapt teaching methods to cater to various learning styles within the OLLI community.
- Showcase your deep understanding and mastery of the subject matter, demonstrating the breadth and depth of your knowledge.
- Forge meaningful connections with OLLI members, cultivating a sense of community and camaraderie within the classroom.
- Encourage open dialogues, collaboration, and networking opportunities among participants, enhancing the overall experience.
- Continuously assess the efficacy of the course curriculum and instructional strategies, making enhancements as needed.
- Courses can be taught (i) in-person on the Vanderbilt campus or other facility, or (ii) remotely, using the online Zoom program.
Qualifications:
- Adept in the subject matter, regardless of formal degrees or previous teaching experience.
- Demonstrated passion for lifelong learning and a commitment to fostering intellectual curiosity.
- Effective communication skills to engage learners of various backgrounds and experiences.
- Flexibility and adaptability to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences.
- Proficiency in utilizing educational technology and online learning platforms, if applicable.
