The PACE Medical Assistant plays a vital role in supporting the healthcare team by providing clinical and administrative assistance. This position involves direct patient care, assisting with medical procedures, and ensuring smooth operations within the PACE program.

Essential Responsibilities:

  • Assist with clinic technical support services, including obtaining vital signs, performing EKGs, collecting lab work, conducting blood draws (if applicable to licensing/training), blood glucose testing, skin testing, immunizations, and other tasks within the scope of practice.
  • Collect and record clinical data into electronic health records; assist providers with data entry functions, such as updating health maintenance records.
  • Prepare and administer medications as directed by prescribers.
  • Perform routine laboratory tests and collect specimens as directed by primary care practitioners.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of examination rooms and medical equipment.
  • Schedule appointments and manage patient records in the electronic health record (EHR).
  • Assist with rooming and checking out PACE participants, including scheduling.
  • Prepare exam rooms, order and restock clinic supplies, and sterilize/disinfect clinic equipment.
  • Provide patient education and support, addressing any questions or concerns.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to ensure comprehensive care for participants.
  • Adhere to all safety and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in team meetings, caregiver groups, and special events as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation of all care provided, changes in condition, and any other pertinent information in participants' health records.
  • Provide on-call coverage for direct patient care with other staff as needed.
  • Ensure that the medical assistant's education, training, and experience are sufficient to perform services at the appropriate standard of care, as determined by the physician, physician associate (PA), or nurse practitioner.

Supporting Responsibilities:
  • Meet department and company performance and attendance expectations.
  • Follow privacy policy and HIPAA laws and regulations concerning confidentiality and security of protected health information.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

SUCCESS PROFILE

Work Experience: A minimum of 1 year of experience working with elderly or frail populations is required.

Education, Certificates, Licenses: A high school diploma or equivalent is required. Completion of a Medical Assistant program is preferred. National Certification as a Medical Assistant (CCMA) is also preferred. CPR and First Aid certification required. Phlebotomy training and/or certification preferred.

Knowledge: Demonstrates excellent communication skills, empathy, and patience. Capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Proficient in performing tasks involving physical activity, such as lifting and transferring participants. Skilled in using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and medical management software. Possesses a working knowledge of accessing community resources and navigating the healthcare system.

Each member of the PACE organization's staff that has direct contact with participants must meet the following conditions:
  • Be legally authorized (for example, currently licensed, registered or certified if applicable) to practice in the State in which he or she performs the function or action.
  • Only act within the scope of his or her authority to practice.
  • Have 1 year of experience working with a frail or elderly population.
  • Meet a standardized set of competencies for the specific position description established by the PACE organization before working independently.
  • Be medically cleared for communicable diseases before engaging in direct participant contact.

Environment: Work inside in general office and clinical settings with ergonomically configured equipment. Travel is required approximately 10% of the time.

Base Range:
$39,807.95 - $63,692.71

Physical Requirements: Work is performed in a clinic setting with typical healthcare exposures, including contact with bodily fluids, infectious diseases, and cleaning chemicals; PPE is provided and required. The role involves stooping, bending, sitting, standing, and moving between clinical areas for extended periods. May assist participants with mobility, including guiding, supporting, escorting, and occasional transfer assistance using proper body mechanics. Must be able to lift, push, pull, or carry up to 35 pounds occasionally and perform frequent repetitive motions such as typing and operating medical or office equipment. Some positions require occasional travel to PACE sites, participant homes, or external appointments. Must be able to speak clearly, understand verbal instructions, and interact professionally with participants, caregivers, and staff.
