Role description:

The Project Mechanical Engineer provides technical expertise while carrying out and completing designs, engineering drawings, construction, installation, and rebuilding of facilities and equipment within the assigned discipline. The areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to, raw materials handling and conveyance systems, batch house systems, dust collectors, heavy industrial equipment, compressors, industrial gases/services, chilled water, process water, vacuum systems, air fans, industrial piping, ductwork, conveyors, and other areas associated with glass container manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop mechanical engineering solutions for Ardagh Glass Packaging plants that satisfy capacity, quality, batch integrity, and customer requirements, ensuring alignment with the Ardagh Group Capital Plan
  • Lead and support capital projects related to batch houses, raw material conveyance, and dust collection systems, interfacing with contractors and other Ardagh Group engineers during field installations
  • Prepare conceptual layouts, batch house flow diagrams, budgetary project estimates, and submit Capital Approval Requests for management approval
  • Develop project scope definition, materials and labor cost estimates, and competitive bidding documents for equipment and contract work
  • Work closely with plant operations and maintenance teams while developing mechanical scopes to ensure operability, maintainability, safety, and process reliability
  • Evaluate new or improved batching systems, dust control solutions, and automation concepts to improve throughput, accuracy, reliability, and environmental performance
  • Investigate circumstances surrounding each assigned project and prepare clear definitions of objectives, constraints, and expected performance outcomes
  • Prepare engineering calculations, design layouts, and AutoCAD drawings for conveyors, silos, hoppers, feeders, weigh systems, batch house layouts, and final installation
  • Provide ongoing operational support and troubleshooting
  • Participate in and/or lead root cause analysis equipment failures
  • Document maintenance task steps to properly maintain manufacturing equipment
  • Support plant maintenance teams in preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for conveyors, batch systems, and mechanical systems
  • Train plant operations and maintenance teams on the operation/troubleshooting of the mechanical systems
Minimum skills / qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline
  • Seven (7) years of experience in a manufacturing environment, including mechanical design, construction, and project management, preferably in heavy or continuous-process industries
  • Demonstrated ability to design, review, and interpret working drawings for conveyors, bulk material handling systems, and batch-related equipment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface across engineering, operations, maintenance, and contractors
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and capable of identifying issues and making practical, cost-effective recommendations
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness and ability to travel up to 50%
Preferred skills / qualifications:
  • Prior experience with glass container batch house systems, raw material handling, and furnace feed operations
  • Experience with bulk solids handling equipment such as belt and screw conveyors, bucket elevators, pneumatic conveying, silos, bin activation, weigh systems, and dust collection
  • Familiarity with preventive and predictive maintenance programs and CMMS within a manufacturing or process-industry environment
  • Servant leader mindset with a collaborative approach to supporting engineering, operations, and plant maintenance teams
