Role Summary
Quality Assurance Engineer responsibilities focus on ensuring the reliability, security, and performance of backend services that support platform RESTful APIs. This is a remote role at an intermediate level, working to validate functionality, integrations, and end-to-end behavior of microservices. The position emphasizes quality practices, observability, and continuous improvement across service lifecycles. Successful performance requires strong problem-solving skills, clear communication, and attention to secure integration patterns.
Responsibilities
- Design, build, and maintain quality validation approaches for scalable backend services powering RESTful APIs
- Develop and execute test plans and test cases for microservices in production-grade environments
- Validate clean and consistent API contracts across internal and external integrations
- Ensure secure and reliable integration testing with internal and external systems
- Assess service performance, resiliency, and reliability through automated and manual testing strategies
- Contribute to improving service observability by validating logging, metrics, and alerting behaviors
- Support shared engineering standards, reusable components, and automation across the microservices ecosystem
- Identify defects, reproduce issues, document findings, and drive clear resolution with engineering teams
- Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives for QA processes and quality gates
- Maintain compliance and quality documentation aligned with organizational expectations and security requirements
Qualifications - Minimum of 2 years of relevant Quality Assurance or testing experience in backend or API-driven systems
- Experience testing microservices and RESTful APIs, including contract validation practices
- Strong understanding of secure integration testing concepts and reliability-focused testing
- Proven problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot complex backend issues
- Clear, professional communication with cross-functional engineering and delivery teams
- Ability to contribute to test automation and quality improvements across service ecosystems
- Working knowledge of Java-based backend environments (including Java 21/25) is preferred
- Demonstrated commitment to continuous improvement through iterative refinement of testing processes
- This position requires eligibility for a U.S. Government security clearance. In accordance with federal law, U.S. citizenship is required.
- Must have relevant educational background or equivalent experience: degree preferred; 2 years of relevant work experience required if no degree
Publishing Pay Range: $40.00 - $45.00 hourly
This is a fully remote role and can be performed from an approved location.
