Job Summary/Basic Function:

This position is responsible for planning, implementing, and coordinating research projects. The Research Project Manager I drives project success by coordinating the development of project scope, goals, work plans, establishing timelines, and tracking milestones to ensure all project objectives are met successfully. Additionally, the Research Project Manager I provides vital resources and administrative support by serving as a collaborative liaison, ensuring clear communication and seamless coordination among research teams, faculty, and administration.

Department Overview:

The Center for Research and Creative Activity (CRCA) provides support from idea to impact for faculty as they prepare, conduct, and share their research. CRCA is a key part of the Research and Creative Activity Ecosystem. Center support lies in responsiveness (i.e., reactive, just-in-time) and preparedness (i.e., proactive investment and training).

We enhance faculty success in research mobilization, cross-campus and community connectivity, and growth as research leaders through streamlined services. Services include a one-stop shop for connecting the structures needed to support ideas to impact by assisting faculty to develop, secure, and improve their research and creative activity goals.

Level Scope:

Fully competent and productive professional contributor who applies acquired job skills, policies, and procedures to complete substantive assignments/projects/tasks of moderate scope and complexity. Works independently with general supervision; exercises judgment within defined guidelines and practices to determine appropriate action. May provide guidance and assistance to entry level professionals and/or support employees.

Essential Functions:

80% of the time, the Research Project Manager 1 must:

  • Lead research projects through project management phases, including initiation, planning, execution, monitoring, and closing.
  • Develop, maintain, and monitor comprehensive project plans, timelines, and schedules.
  • Manage and coordinate research teams to ensure clear communication and alignment on project deliverables.
  • Provide institutional technical support, assistance, and maintenance for research project management systems and activities.
  • Develop and implement internal and external communication plans, including the creation of project marketing materials and program updates.
  • Coordinate and streamline project documentation and reporting processes for research teams.
  • Synthesize data to evaluate program effectiveness, explore alternatives, and guide program development.
20% of the time, the Research Project Manager 1 will:
  • Coordinate center events.
  • Coordinate center educational workshops.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to think analytically and critically.
  • Experience planning and organizing projects and delegating work.
  • Knowledge of various project management methodologies.
  • Experience with coordinating and managing research projects.
Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree and 2 years of professional experience or equivalent relevant experience.

Salary and Benefits:

Salary range is $50,065.60 to $62,587.20 annually and is commensurate with experience. Boise State University provides a best-in-class benefits package, including (but not limited to):
