Summary of the group:

The Biopharmaceutical Development (BPD) group is a multi-disciplinary scientific function providing expertise in Process/Analytical/Formulation/Device Development and Characterization with integrated Bioprocess Engineering, Clinical Manufacturing, and Supply Chain and Logistics operations. The group is also responsible for transferring the processes to different clinical and commercial sites in and outside the AstraZeneca organization. BPD group is present in multiple sites in US and UK.

This position is in Early Stage Formulation Sciences within BPD, responsible for designing and developing formulation and Drug Product presentations from pre-clinical through Phase 3 clinical trials and in support of commercialization.

Main Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Perform research in state-of-the-art laboratories that are focused on formulation and process development of biologics
  • Evaluate protein formulation development, characterization, and stability testing
  • Contribute to advancing AstraZeneca's pipeline of diverse antibody modalities
  • Drive innovation across a variety of scientific domains
  • Make in-depth experimental observations, analyze and interpret experimental results, and present scientific data
  • Act as Functional representative on CMC teams
  • Author CMC sections for regulatory filings

Education & Experience Requirements:
  • M.S. in Chemical/biochemical engineering, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Pharmaceutical Sciences or related field with a minimum of 2 years of relevant industry experience.

Required Skills:
  • Experience with formulation development, biophysical characterization, and stability testing of proteins
  • Science oriented, highly motivated self-starter with drive to succeed
  • Meticulous in execution of laboratory experiments and reporting
  • Good communication skills, strong interpersonal skills, and ability to thrive in an interdisciplinary fast paced environment

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of stability and rheological properties of high concentration biologics formulations
  • Knowledge of antibody formulation liabilities, formulation interactions, and desired properties like binding, stability, and developability
  • Familiarity with antibody structure, different antibody modalities including multi-specifics and antibody-conjugates, and degradation mechanisms
  • Familiarity with different routes of administration (intravenous, subcutaneous), delivery devices, and combination products
  • Knowledge of Design of Experiments and statistical principles
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual contributor and as a team member within a matrix environment.

The annual base pay (or hourly rate of compensation) for this position ranges from $ 81,127.20 to $121,690. Our positions offer eligibility for various incentives-an opportunity to receive short-term incentive bonuses, equity-based awards for salaried roles and commissions for sales roles. Benefits offered include qualified retirement programs, paid time off (i.e., vacation, holiday, and leaves), as well as health, dental, and vision coverage in accordance with the terms of the applicable plans
