The Role
Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a Senior BIM Modeler to support the design and documentation of complex projects using the latest modeling software. In this role, you'll be responsible for creating 3D parametric models, translating them into clear 2D drawings, and producing detailed construction documents. The ideal candidate is self-directed, technically skilled, and comfortable working across all phases of the building design process. You'll partner with the DC office's project managers along with our regional BIM teams to ensure consistent, high-quality BIM execution across structural engineering projects, including BIM execution planning, Revit standards, QA/QC, workflow optimization, and staff development.
Responsibilities
- Implement and support global BIM and Digital Design standards and workflows.
- Oversee BIM execution on projects, including Revit modeling, documentation, and QA/QC.
- Serve as the primary Revit contact and provide first-line technical support.
- Mentor Revit users and identify training and development needs.
- Assist with RFPs, BIM Execution Plans, and firmwide BIM initiatives.
- Create 2D CAD/3D BIM models to a high level of accuracy.
- Develop structural plans, sections, elevations and details from a 3D BIM model for projects of all sizes and technical complexities.
- Interface with engineers, our clients, and other consultants through clear communication and drawings. Interact with our clients to coordinate BIM modeling content and approaches, model exchanges, quality control, and delivery.
Requirements
- Significant design experience and understanding of AutoCAD and Revit.
- Working knowledge of structural building components, structural construction materials (steel and concrete), standard construction techniques, and basic understanding of print reading and construction document production.
- Excellent understanding of 3D parametric modeling to maximize the benefits of an integrated building model.
- Excellent skills in relation to rendering and graphic formats and their manipulation and output.
- Experience with ACC/BIM 360, Bluebeam Revu/Studio, and Microsoft Office.
- Working knowledge of tools such as Navisworks, Dynamo, Rhino, Grasshopper, or Tekla Structures is a plus.
- BIM-related certifications (e.g., CM-BIM) are a plus.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. security clearance.
CompensationThe rate for this position generally is $95,000 - $130,000 annually. Actual pay rates may vary from the range, as permitted by District of Columbia Equal Pay Transparency Law. Compensation offers will be based on various factors, including operational needs, individual education, qualifications and experience, work location and comparison to employee already in the role, as well as other considerations permitted by law. A potential new employee's pay history will not be used in compensation decisions.
