Position Overview:

The Senior Financial Analyst - Capital serves as a key business partner responsible for maintaining the financial integrity of capital projects across the organization. This role provides financial analysis, ensures compliance with fixed asset policies, and maintains accurate capital accounting records. Acting as a liaison between Finance, Project Management, and cross-functional teams, the analyst supports informed decision-making and alignment with capital and project management standards. Success requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to perform effectively in a dynamic environment.

This position is an on-site role based at Motiva's Port Arthur Manufacturing Complex in Port Arthur, Texas.

Responsibilities:

  • Interpret and apply accounting policies related to Fixed Assets, Capital, and Catalyst
  • Review and challenge capital projects, including business justifications, economic assumptions, and capital vs. expense determinations
  • Complete, analyze, and validate project economics for capital projects
  • Manage capital project administration tasks, including creation, closure, asset management, and retirements
  • Perform Value of Work Done (VOWD) analysis and execute manual journal entries for month-end reporting
  • Ensure compliance with Delegation of Authority for capital projects
  • Provide financial support for capital projects across Refining, Chemicals and Distribution, with a focus on Catalyst and Tank projects, as well as large capital project teams, as needed
  • Provide end-to-end support for catalyst projects, including Investment Proposal (IP) creation, requisitioning, cost management, and asset creation
  • Analyze financial data to prepare and provide monthly latest estimates, variance analysis, and execute month-end closing duties
  • Prepare and maintain detailed and comprehensive documentation of processes and procedures to support
  • Assist in the annual business plan cycle for depreciation & amortization, catalyst, and site capital tank program
  • Participate in the annual asset verification process
  • Support special projects across Finance, the Refinery, Chemicals, and Distribution

Experience and Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field
  • At least 5 years of experience in financial analysis, business planning, or financial reporting
  • Proficiency in financial modeling, valuation, and analysis
  • Strong collaboration, stakeholder engagement, and business partnering skills
  • Knowledge of financial controls, governance, and assurance practices
  • Ability to develop and present business-focused reports
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to explain financial information to cross-functional teams
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail to support accurate financial reporting and analysis
  • Demonstrated ability to identify issues and implement effective solutions
  • Ability to manage competing priorities, meet deadlines, and handle multiple tasks and projects at once
  • Ability to adapt and perform effectively in a changing environment
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred Education and Experience:
  • Oil and gas industry experience
  • Knowledge of financial systems, including SAP
  • Familiarity with refinery and/or chemical complexes
  • Experience creating and managing complex spreadsheets
