Position Description
Job Summary:
The Senior Project Manager is responsible for the overall leadership, strategy, and execution of complex, high-value construction projects across Penhall Company's nationwide operations. This role oversees all phases of project delivery, including financial performance, contract strategy, risk management, and client relationships. The Senior Project Manager plays a critical role in driving project success, mentoring teams, and ensuring consistent execution across multiple projects and locations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of large-scale, complex construction projects using advanced project management principles and methodologies.
- Provide strategic oversight and direction to project teams, ensuring alignment with scope, schedule, budget, and contractual obligations.
- Oversee multiple projects or high-value projects simultaneously, ensuring consistency in execution and performance.
- Establish and enforce accountability across Project Managers, Project Engineers, Superintendents, and field teams.
- Own full financial performance of projects, including budgeting, forecasting, and cost-to-complete projections.
- Lead high-level cost reviews and ensure alignment between operations and financial outcomes.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities; implement strategies to protect and improve project margins.
- Oversee and approve change orders, claims, and cost recovery strategies.
- Provide expert-level contract management, including interpretation of complex contract terms and risk allocation.
- Lead strategy for RFIs, change orders, delay claims, and dispute resolution.
- Proactively identify and mitigate risks, including differing site conditions and third-party impacts.
- Ensure strong contractual positioning through disciplined documentation and communication practices.
- Oversee development and management of project schedules and critical path activities.
- Ensure alignment between scheduling, field execution, and contractual milestones.
- Drive mitigation strategies for schedule risks and delays.
- Serve as senior point of contact for clients, general contractors, and executive stakeholders.
- Lead high-level project meetings, negotiations, and issue resolution discussions.
- Build and maintain long-term client relationships and support business development efforts.
- Provide leadership and mentorship to Project Managers, Project Engineers, and junior staff.
- Drive adoption of best practices, standards, and continuous improvement across project teams.
- Support organizational initiatives, including process improvements and operational excellence.
- Champion and enforce Penhall's safety-first culture across all projects.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
Position Requirements Required Skills and Abilities:
- Extensive experience managing large-scale heavy civil, demolition, or specialty subcontracting projects.
- Advanced knowledge of cost control, forecasting, and financial management.
- Deep expertise in contract administration, claims management, and risk mitigation.
- Strong experience with project scheduling, critical path analysis, and multi-project coordination.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office and project management / cost control systems.
- Exceptional leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple high-priority projects and stakeholders simultaneously.

Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field preferred (or equivalent field experience).
- 10+ years of project management experience in construction, with significant focus in heavy civil, demolition, or self-perform environments.
- Proven experience managing large, complex, multi-million-dollar projects and/or multiple projects simultaneously.
- Demonstrated success leading teams across multiple locations and delivering strong financial performance.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Ability to walk job sites when necessary.
- May be required to travel to job sites and other locations.
Work Environment & Travel:
- Remote work flexibility based on project phase and business needs.
- Travel is required and driven by project demands, including short-term visits and extended onsite assignments.
- Per diem, lodging, and travel accommodations provided as applicable.
- Ability to work extended hours and weekends as required to meet project demands.
