Position Overview
Leads the development of initial and/or new supply sources and the initial business and process requirements to facilitate procurement of parts and equipment for SubCom Products. Analyses technical data, designs, preliminary specifications, manufacturing limitations, supplier facilities, and availability of parts and equipment. Investigate potential suppliers and recommend those most desirable. Leads, Arranges, participates cross-functional teams in communication and collaboration between suppliers and engineers, purchasers, inspectors, and other company personnel to facilitate economical procurement of parts and equipment used in SubCom's products.
Essential Job Functions
Level Impact Language:
- Lead the wet and dry plant effort in sustained engineering for the Supply Chain Management team.
- Identify and develop alternate/2nd source Suppliers
- Lead cross-functional team through charter development to execution using SubCom methodology and stage-gate process
- Develop cost modeling for continued price evaluation/reduction through VA/VE
- Work with R&D and Operations engineers to identify non-value-added requirements
- Work with Suppliers to drive quality improvement initiatives
- Works directly with Suppliers to understand their cost structure and drive part/process pricing improvements through elimination of non-value-added effort.
- Works internally to develop "Should-Cost Models" and communicates cross-functionally with R&D, Finance, Supply Chain and Operations teams
- Identify 2nd and 3rd source opportunities through alternate parts, processes, or technology to create optionality for SubCom
- Develop and maintain Product Lifecycle Management reporting tools in support of the pipeline initiatives to drive future cost reduction efforts
- Work closely with the design, quality and component engineering teams to ensure continued source of supply
- Participate in regular Supply Chain meetings and interfaces with all departments
- Ensure compliance with purchasing policies and procedures, ethical practices and adherence to relevant laws and regulations

Skills/Abilities - Supply Chain Management or Business Management Bachelor of Science degree required. Engineering degree a bonus with Product/Process experience in the New Product Introduction, Product Development, Product Lifecycle Management domain. Electrical, Mechanical, Optical, or Industrial Engineering background and experience will be an advantage.
- Advanced skills and abilities in conducting market and industry research and using intelligence gained to inform strategy and covert into actionable tasks
- Ability to synthesize internal and external information to form a point of view and enroll other stakeholders to gain consensus
- Engineering, knowledge of the submarine cable business is preferred but not required
- Understanding reliability/quality and supply line management is desirable
- Demonstrated leadership ability and experience leading cross-functional teams and initiatives with a focus on re-engineering, greenfield business initiatives, innovation, and program development.
- Knowledge of manufacturing cost analysis, with a focus on cost reduction is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and frequent travel to Factories and Supplier's locations.
- A prime requirement for this job is the ability to learn the techniques for utilizing new technology and continuous part/product cost improvement
- Ability to conduct business in a professional manner at all times and to be cooperative and service oriented
- Strong work ethic and ability to work effectively as well as efficiently, with minimum direct supervision

- Travel to other SubCom locations and Supplier facilities is a requirement
- The performance of this position may occasionally require exposure to the manufacturing areas where under certain areas require the use of personal protective equipment such as safety glasses with side shields and mandatory hearing protection
