Position Description

Job Summary:

The Shop Assistant supports daily operations within the Penhall shop and yard by performing a variety of tasks, including equipment check-in/check-out, forklift operation, slurry processing, and general housekeeping. This role works closely with shop mechanics, field crews, and dispatch teams to ensure equipment readiness, a clean work environment, and timely part and equipment movement. Ideal for individuals with a strong work ethic and an interest in construction equipment and support operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

• Operate filter press system to separate water from concrete slurry and recycle solids for reuse.
• Maintain cleanliness and organization of the shop and yard areas.
• Assist mechanics with equipment maintenance, repairs, and shop tasks as directed.
• Check in/out unallocated tools and equipment used by field crews.
• Operate forklift to move materials and equipment safely within the yard.
• Pick up and deliver parts, tools, and equipment as needed.
• Perform general housekeeping duties, including sweeping, waste removal, and organizing supplies.
• Support field crews, dispatch, and shop personnel with routine needs.
• Adhere to all Penhall Company safety protocols and operational procedures.

Position Requirements

Required Skills and Abilities:

• Strong work ethic and ability to follow instructions.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
• Ability to operate or learn to operate forklifts and other light equipment.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Entry-level position; 1 year of experience in a shop, construction, or related environment preferred.
• Prior experience in construction, equipment handling, or warehouse support is a plus.

Physical and Additional Requirements:

• Must be able to lift 45 lbs. or more and perform physical labor for extended periods.
• Must be available to work full-time and flexible hours, including occasional overtime.
