The Opportunity:
We are currently seeking a Project Manager I - Federal Planning to join our Federal Planning practice in Norfolk, Jacksonville, or Pittsburgh.
This role is ideal for a planner ready to take ownership of project delivery and team coordination responsibilities. The Project Manager I will manage federal planning projects and task orders, coordinating multidisciplinary teams and ensuring successful delivery aligned with scope, schedule, and budget.
What You'll Do:
You will manage federal planning projects such as installation master plans, area development plans, infrastructure planning studies, and related DoD planning efforts. While continuing to contribute technically, you will take responsibility for organizing project execution, coordinating internal resources, and maintaining client communication.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management
- Serve as Project Manager for assigned federal planning projects or task orders.
- Develop project work plans, schedules, and staffing plans.
- Monitor scope, schedule, and budget performance.
- Coordinate with internal disciplines to ensure timely and high-quality deliverables.
- Track progress and communicate status updates to clients and internal leadership.
- Identify potential risks and proactively address issues affecting delivery.
Technical Planning Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to planning analyses, including land use, infrastructure, and site suitability studies.
- Oversee preparation of planning reports, documentation, and visual materials.
- Ensure deliverables align with Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), DoD guidance, and client standards.
- Support GIS-based mapping and presentation graphics as needed.
Client & Team Coordination
- Participate in client meetings, site visits, workshops, and charrettes.
- Serve as day-to-day client contact for assigned projects.
- Provide guidance and direction to planners and junior staff.
- Collaborate on proposal efforts and task order responses when needed.
What You'll Bring:
- Bachelor's degree in Urban Planning, City & Regional Planning, Civil Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline (Master's degree preferred).
- 10 years of professional planning experience, including federal or DoD project exposure.
- AICP certification, Registered Architect (RA) or Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating projects or leading task-level efforts.
- Working knowledge of DoD planning standards, Unified Facilities Criteria (UFC), and MILCON processes.
- U.S. citizenship required due to federal contract requirements.
- Proficiency in ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite.
- Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Willingness to travel for short- or medium-term project assignments (typically 1-3 weeks).
