We're looking for a Survey Crew Chief to join our Survey Group in Lenexa, KS. This role is essential to leading field operations, maintaining project quality, and supporting the successful delivery of survey services across the Kansas City metro and Midwest region. Travel is generally less than 20%.
What You'll Do
As a Survey Crew Chief, you'll:
- Lead field survey crews in performing boundary, topographic, ALTA/NSPS, DOT, and construction staking surveys.
- Assist crew members with field computations and data collection using GPS, robotic total stations, and other survey equipment.
- Coordinate daily field activities, ensuring clear communication with supervisors and project teams.
- Perform construction stakeout and interpret land development plans to support field layout.
- Upload, download, and organize field data, including notes, photos, and documentation.
- Maintain accuracy, quality control, and thorough field documentation on all projects.
- Ensure proper maintenance and organization of survey equipment, tools, and the survey truck.
- Mentor and support junior crew members in field procedures and best practices.
- Interact professionally with clients, contractors, and on-site personnel.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining safety and productivity.
- Ensure compliance with all GBA safety standards and field procedures.
What You Bring - High school diploma or GED required.
- Minimum 3 years of combined field and office surveying experience.
- Proficiency with robotic total stations and GPS equipment.
- Knowledge of survey computations and basic math.
- Familiarity with DOT, boundary, topographic, and ALTA/NSPS survey methodologies.
- Ability to travel up to 20% regionally.
- Strong communication skills and a professional client-facing demeanor.
- Ability to work outdoors for extended periods and perform physical field duties.
- Team-oriented mindset with the ability to follow established procedures.
Preferred Qualifications - Associate degree, bachelor's degree, or technical school training in surveying or geomatics.
- LSIT or PLS registration.
- Certified Survey Technician (CST) certification.
- Experience with LiDAR, UAV (drone) systems, mobile mapping, 3D scanning, or other advanced survey technologies.
- Additional training or certifications in geospatial tools or survey data collection systems.
Physical Requirements - Ability to work in outdoor field environments in varying weather conditions.
- Ability to lift, carry, and operate equipment required for field survey work.
