Mechanical Systems Engineer
Full-Time with an Employee Owned and Best Places to Work Contractor
Onsite in Huntsville, AL | Schedule: 9x80
Support the Ground Weapons System (GWS) program by ensuring mechanical hardware designs meet environmental and compliance requirements through analysis, evaluation, and engineering guidance.
Responsibilities:
- Evaluate mechanical hardware designs for compliance with environmental and system requirements
- Provide design guidance and engineering analysis to support GWS development
- Develop and review 2D/3D engineering models and technical drawings in accordance with ASME standards
- Perform COTS and military component evaluations to ensure requirements compliance
- Generate and maintain engineering documentation (drawings, specifications, test procedures, reports, CDRLs)
- Support design, integration, and testing of mechanical and structural components and subsystems
- Utilize PLM (Teamcenter) and ERP/MRP systems (SAP) for engineering data and configuration management
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support system development for MDA programs
Qualifications:
- U.S. Citizenship is required by Federal Law
- Active Secret Clearance required
- Bachelor's degree in a STEM field from an accredited institution and 5+ years of relevant experience (Or Master's degree and 3+ years of experience)
- 4+ years of experience with 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Creo, NX)
- Experience creating and reviewing 2D drawings per ASME standards
- Experience with PLM (Teamcenter) and MRP/ERP systems (SAP)
- Experience evaluating COTS and military-grade components for compliance
- 3D CAD modeling (SolidWorks, Creo, NX)
- ASME drawing standards (Y14.5, Y14.100)
- Engineering documentation and configuration management
- Hardware compliance and environmental evaluation
- Mechanical/structural design and integration
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with MIL-STD-810, 461, 1472, 1366, 31000
- Experience supporting Missile Defense Agency (MDA) programs
- Background in environmental engineering or hardware environmental qualification (HWE)
- Experience leading small teams and mentoring junior engineers
