VOLT is hiring for a Tax Accountant I - Sales & Use Tax in Calabasas, CA
The Tax Accountant I - Sales & Use Tax supports sales and use tax compliance for a multi-state portfolio of single-family residential rental properties and related amenities. This role assists with tax filings, compliance reviews, research, audit support, and tax liability analysis related to new construction development, general contractor activity, property renovations, repairs, maintenance, and property management operations across multiple jurisdictions.
This position is ideal for a detail-oriented accounting professional who thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and is eager to build expertise in sales and use tax.
As a Tax Accountant I, you will:
- Prepare supporting documentation and file monthly sales and use tax returns
- Process ACH tax payments, provide account coding, and reconcile tax data to accounting records
- Analyze monthly transactions to identify vendor compliance issues and use tax liabilities by reviewing payment support and applying jurisdictional tax rules
- Support New Construction Development activities by:
- Verifying vendor information
- Preparing and maintaining exemption certificates and filing trackers
- Researching sales tax jurisdictions and applicable rates
- Assisting with estimated sales tax liability for project budgets
- Develop and maintain working knowledge of sales and use tax laws and regulations
- Assist with tax research and provide audit support as needed
- Follow all company policies, procedures, training requirements, and legal mandates
- Actively support and comply with all safety programs and workplace safety requirements
- Perform duties in an ethical, professional, and responsible manner
- Complete additional projects and tasks as assigned by management
Minimum Qualifications Education & Experience - Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field (required)
- Minimum of one (1) year of related accounting or tax experience preferred
- Experience with CRM systems, Yardi, and JD Edwards preferred
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities - Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel preferred
- Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Adobe Acrobat
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and attention-to-detail skills
- Excellent organizational and time-management abilities with strong follow-up skills
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with internal teams and external vendors
- Ability to manage multiple projects and competing priorities simultaneously
- Collaborative team player with a flexible and adaptable mindset
Pay Rate: $29.00/hour *Pay range offered to a successful candidate will be based on several factors, including the candidate's education, work experience, work location, specific job duties, certifications, etc.
