This role is ideal for a licensed Professional Engineer with strong hands-on roadway design experience using AutoCAD Civil 3D, who enjoys both technical design and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams. You will work on projects ranging from new roadway construction to complex rehabilitation and multimodal improvements, ensuring safe, compliant, and constructible solutions from concept through final design and construction.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Design roadway and transportation projects including new construction, reconstruction, rehabilitation, and renovations of roadways, sidewalks, intersections, and multimodal facilities.
  • Perform detailed roadway design using AutoCAD Civil 3D, including:
    • Horizontal and vertical alignments
    • Corridor modeling and cross sections
    • Pipe networks and storm drainage systems
    • Quantity takeoff and cost estimation
  • Develop ADA-compliant designs including curb ramps, sidewalks, pedestrian facilities, and accessibility improvements in accordance with current standards.
  • Prepare and review preliminary and final design deliverables, including plans, reports, specifications, cost estimates, and supporting calculations.
  • Apply INDOT standards, AASHTO guidelines, and other applicable local, state, and federal requirements throughout project delivery.
  • Provide technical oversight and quality control for work produced by other design engineers and engineering technicians.
  • Coordinate with internal disciplines, subconsultants, and external stakeholders to ensure integrated and timely project delivery.
  • Participate in project planning, design reviews, and client meetings; support project managers in meeting scope, schedule, and budget objectives.
  • Mentor and develop entry-level and mid-level engineers, fostering strong roadway design skillsets and best practices.
  • Maintain a high standard of professionalism in all interactions with clients, partners, and internal teams.

What You'll Bring:
  • Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program (Master's degree a plus).
  • Active Indiana Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
  • 5+ years of progressive roadway design experience, including both simple and complex roadway projects.
  • Demonstrated expertise using AutoCAD Civil 3D for roadway design and analysis (alignments, profiles, corridors, cross sections, pipe networks, and quantities).
  • Experience designing ADA curb ramps, sidewalks, and pedestrian facilities.
  • Strong working knowledge of INDOT design standards, specifications, and design guidelines.
  • Familiarity with INDOT project development processes.
  • Familiarity with AASHTO policies and roadway design criteria.
  • Proven ability to produce high-quality design documents and deliver challenging projects.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to travel to project sites as needed.
