Job Summary

As a Unit Manager for the Program Field Office at BPMI, you will be responsible for leading an integrated team of BPMI engineers and Defence Contract Management Agency (DCMA) government inspectors to ensure quality and delivery requirements and expectations are met during reactor plant heavy equipment fabrication at BWXT Mt. Vernon, Indiana.

Essential Duties:

  • Establish and implement an oversight plan to ensure quality through shop surveillance, quality system audits, procedure/process reviews, and specification compliance checks.
  • Provide strong leadership to direct reports, demonstrating a commitment to quality and meeting delivery needs through proactive reviews and resolution of technical fabrication issues.
  • Partner with the supplier, RPHE and other BPMI departments, and DCMA to manage component technical requirement compliance.
  • Establish a constructive atmosphere of mutual respect and trust with supplier management while remaining independent.
  • Influence the supplier to meet Program objectives, escalate issues to senior supplier management.
  • Advise senior BPMI leadership on quality and delivery concerns, and focus Program attention on key issues.
  • Communicate and mentor direct reports on key company strategies and goals (e.g., strategic plan) to inspire quality work that connects to the mission.
  • Recruit, coach, and mentor engineering professionals to develop their careers and professional, technical, and leadership skills.
  • Manage and forecast labor resources.
  • Occasional travel (5% - 10%) to other BWXT sites (Barberton, OH; Euclid, OH) and BPMI.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in related technical field (e.g. Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering) from an accredited university.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of related technical work experience. An advanced degree may be considered in lieu of some year(s) of experience.
  • Physical ability to work in manufacturing settings including areas that are not temperature controlled, confined spaces, and elevated work platforms. Personnel safety emphasis in a shop environment is a must.
  • Requires a security clearance; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Five (5) years minimum of NNPP experience. Industry experience may be considered in lieu of some year(s) of NNPP experience.
  • Demonstrated project management and leadership skills in managing the activities of multiple stakeholders on projects of increasing complexity and responsibility.
  • Demonstrated creative problem solving and influential decision-making skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills; ability to articulate technically complex information to a spectrum of stakeholders and influence project direction.
  • Experience with quality audits and non-destructive testing techniques.
