Position Overview:
The Vice President, Corporate Development & Strategy (CD&S) is accountable for leading the development and execution of Motiva's enterprise growth strategy, portfolio optimization agenda, and strategic investment priorities. Reporting to the EVP, Commercial, this role provides senior leadership over Corporate Development, Strategy and Mergers & Acquisitions, ensuring alignment of strategic initiatives with Motiva's long-term business objectives and shareholder priorities.
The VP, CD&S partners closely with the ELT, Shareholder, and external stakeholders to identify and mature strategic growth opportunities, optimize enterprise portfolio decisions, and ensure disciplined governance and value delivery across strategic investments, transactions, and enterprise initiatives.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the development, communication, and periodic refresh of Motiva's enterprise corporate strategy and long-range growth plans in alignment with shareholder priorities and market outlook.
- Serve as strategic advisor to the EVP, Commercial on enterprise strategy, portfolio optimization, strategic investments, and commercial growth priorities.
- Provide regular strategic updates and recommendations to Executive Leadership regarding the status, progress, risks, and priorities of corporate development and strategic initiatives.
- Establish and lead Motiva's corporate development strategy across acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, partnerships, and other inorganic growth opportunities.
- Oversee the identification, screening, evaluation, and maturation of strategic growth opportunities across refining, logistics, chemicals, retail, and adjacent energy sectors.
- Direct enterprise portfolio strategy and investment planning processes, ensuring disciplined capital allocation and strategic alignment of investment priorities.
- Lead strategic market, competitive, and macroeconomic analyses to inform enterprise strategy, portfolio decisions, and long-term business planning.
- Provide executive oversight of transaction origination, diligence, structuring, negotiation, governance approvals, and post-close value realization planning.
- Ensure alignment and effective coordination with Aramco and affiliated entities regarding strategic planning, investment approvals, governance requirements, and partnership opportunities.
- Represent Motiva in strategic external engagements, including executive stakeholder meetings, industry forums, partnership discussions, and transaction negotiations.
- Ensure strategic initiatives and investment opportunities are supported by robust governance, financial rigor, and fit-for-purpose value assurance processes.
- Translate enterprise strategy into actionable priorities for business leaders and strategic teams, ensuring effective execution and accountability.
- Build and develop a high-performing Corporate Development & Strategy organization, fostering commercial acumen, strategic capability, and organizational effectiveness.
- Serve as an influential enterprise leader and thought partner, shaping decisions with company-wide and long-term shareholder impact.
Experience and Qualifications:Required Education and Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Finance, Economics, Business, or related discipline.
- 15+ years of progressive leadership experience in corporate strategy, business development, mergers & acquisitions, investment banking, private equity, or related strategic/commercial functions.
- Significant downstream oil & gas, chemicals, energy, or other capital-intensive industry experience.
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise strategy development and execution in complex organizations.
- Proven track record of originating, evaluating, structuring, and executing strategic growth opportunities and/or transactions.
- Deep understanding of portfolio strategy, capital allocation, investment governance, and strategic planning processes.
- Strong executive presence with demonstrated ability to influence executive leadership, boards, shareholders, and external stakeholders.
- Proven experience serving as a trusted advisor and strategic thought partner to senior executives.
- Demonstrated success leading and developing senior strategic/commercial organizations.
- Exceptional strategic, financial, and commercial acumen.
- Ability and willingness to travel domestically and internationally, including periodic overseas travel to Saudi Arabia and other locations, in support of shareholder engagement, strategic initiatives, business development activities, and effective engagement across diverse cultural contexts
Preferred Education and Experience:
- MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience interfacing with Boards and executive governance committees.
- Established network within energy, industrial, and financial communities.
