This position works primarily in Northeast Nebraska (Knox, Cedar, Dixon, Dakota, Thurston, Wayne, Pierce, Antelope, Boone, Madison, Stanton, Cuming, Burt, Washington, Dodge, Colfax, Platte, Polk, Butler and York Counties).

In this position you will serve Nebraska consumers by ensure equity in the marketplace. The Weights and Measures program protects the integrity of commercial measurements by inspecting weighing and measuring equipment.

Travel would be in the inspection area and may include periodic travel to other inspection areas or meetings. We provide you with a state vehicle and the equipment you'll need to perform inspections. Residence in the Area is preferred.

Initial training will be held in Lincoln, additional training will be held in your inspection area. Initial training typically lasts 3 - 4 weeks, but continued training opportunities exist. There may be some overnight travel for training and occasional meetings.

Job Duties: Conduct inspections of commercial weighing and measuring devices ranging in capacities from 600 grams to 150,000 lbs. Efficiently maintain required inspection frequency in the area. Submit all inspection reports electronically. Maintain vehicles (1/2 Ton Pickup & Large Scale Truck). Maintain testing equipment (weights). All other duties assigned withing the scope of the classification.

Requirements / Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications: Post high school coursework/training in agriculture, plant/animal or natural sciences, or other program related field OR a vocation certificate in electrical, mechanical, engineering or other program related field. AND Two years' experience working in a relevant discipline

Preferred Qualifications: Experience in using computers, Excel.

Other: Valid Commercial Drivers License (CDL), or ability to obtain, and a high school diploma. Physical capability and endurance to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs. on a daily basis. Regular and reliable attendance is required.

Work Hours: Flexible, Monday-Sunday 40 hours per week

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Possess good written and oral communication skills and the ability to interact and build rapport with business owners and the general public. The ability to understand and communicate legal requirements, policies, and procedures of the program. Ability to operate computers and have a basic understanding of computer software programs and have the ability to prioritize and efficiently plan all inspections in a productive manner.
