The Director of Athletics is responsible to the Dean for Student Engagement for the supervision of the Athletics Department staff and coaches, and oversight of all athletic related events and activities.

Set, maintain, and assess the athletic department's vision, goals, practices, and procedures.

Select, train, supervise and evaluate the performance of athletics department full-time, part-time, and student staff and athletic team coaches and assistant coaches.

Oversee the Fitness Center staff and operations.

Direct the overall administration of all athletic sports, athletic programs, and athletic facilities. This includes the scheduling of facilities, assigning process of officials and game event staff, and ensuring staff coverage at all games and events.

Manage multiple budget lines for all athletic programs and Fitness Center.This includes monitoring and approving expenditures, preparing recommendations for annual budget requests, assigning student athlete scholarships, and assuring sound fiscal practices are being employed by all athletics department staff.

Serve as the Illinois Skyway Collegiate Conference (ISCC) Athletic Representative and attend all necessary Skyway and National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Region 4 meetings.

Maintain compliance with all College policies and NJCAA, ISCC, Title IX rules and regulations.This includes student eligibility and equity in resources.

Coordinate and chair the Athletic Hall of Fame selection process and Annual Athletic Recognition banquet.

Promote the academic success for student athletes through their participation in the counseling student-athlete S.T.A.R program and initiating new efforts, analyzing data on student success indicators, and developing systems to proactively identify and address areas of academic concern for student athletes.

Establish alumni communications to maintain connections with past players and annually document athletic teams and coaches for historical and archival information.

Develop a community outreach plan and establish strong relations with external stakeholders. This includes maintaining relationships with local secondary, collegiate, and non-profit athletic programs.

Collaboratively work with Marketing & Communications to market athletic sports programs, intramural programs, and athletic fundraising events.This includes oversight of the athletic web pages and departmental and teams social media presence.

Provide oversight of the approval process of fundraising efforts by athletic sports teams and ensure established procedures are being followed and documented.

Ensure safety practices are being followed by coaches, athletic trainers, and student athletes.This includes ensuring all physical examinations, insurance information is collected and having athletic staff routinely check safety equipment and conditions before athletic events.

Collaborate with Facilities staff to maintain, prepare, and improve athletic fields, floors, and equipment on an on-going basis.This includes arranging for appropriate security of equipment.

Oversee the purchasing and maintenance of athletic equipment and supplies.

Become certified as a licensed Food Handler and provide indirect oversight of student staff employed at the snack bar operations during athletic events.

Participate in professional development and training to enhance the position as assigned.

Prepare appropriate reports and memos as directed.

Perform other duties as assigned by the Assistant Provost of Student Services.

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor's degree required from an accredited college or university.Master's degree in Physical Education, Sports Management, or related field preferred.

Must be knowledgeable on NJCAA eligibility rules and have a minimum of one year experience determining and submitting NJCAA eligibility for student athletes.

Five years of experience as a coach or in athletic administration at a college or high school level required.

Two years of previous direct supervisory experience required.

Excellent human relations and communication skills with a demonstrated ability to work with a diverse student population required.

Two or more years of experience in athletic administration at a collegiate level preferred.

Budget preparation and fiscal management skills preferred.

Prior experience setting and evaluating departmental goals preferred.

Public speaking skills preferred.

Experience in a community college setting preferred.
