Job Summary

As a Shipboard IT (SBIT) Specialist at BPMI, you will work with an emphasis on project management to develop, deploy, and support local area networks and associated custom software used in the administration, operation, and maintenance of shipboard NNPP systems. This position requires extensive written and verbal communication with customer and supplier personnel in areas including but not limited to evaluations, design reviews, fielding and operational support, cybersecurity analysis, performance monitoring, engineering methods, and software development, preparing and providing training to end users, and analysis of vendor deliverables and systems for quality control or manufacturing surveillance.

Essential Duties:

  • Responsibilities include budgeting, planning, designing, analyzing, documenting, and testing computer and electrical components, systems, equipment, and facilities in accordance with software and hardware lifecycle management processes.
  • Initiate and perform assigned IT projects to address obsolescence, cybersecurity, and other technical requirements considering user feedback, field performance data, metrics and emerging issues.
  • Provide oversight of and engagement in supplier design, testing, and procedure development. Review and approve supplier design, supporting technical reports, and other deliverables and complete supplier performance measures, including post job assessments and surveillance.
  • Provide planned and emergent fleet support and lead fielding activities in remote and on-site capacities for systems and components related to a limited aspect of the group's function.
  • Coordinate and team with other professionals/engineers to ensure proper integration of new components and software versions, participate in technical design reviews, support logistics actions, and assist in validating, verifying, and testing procedures for assigned systems.
  • Develop and maintain detailed documentation including procedures, system diagrams, specifications, processes, cost and schedule estimates, and configuration records in compliance with quality requirements.
  • Initiate and perform sustainment and development tasks including planning, testing, and implementation of new or modified systems for improvements, process efficiency, and technology modernization, ensuring alignment with program goals, engineering standards, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Prepare technical correspondence and supporting information for Government review, providing data, recommendations, and requests for funding.
  • Create, prepare, provide, and support regular training to end users in area of assigned cognizance.
  • Maintain a current understanding of and implement Company engineering policies and procedures in area of cognizance.
  • Retain necessary qualifications to perform assigned duties.

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Computer Information Systems, Information Technology, or related degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Eight (8) or more years of completed education and/or relevant experience may be considered to satisfy educational and years of experience requirements.
  • Requires a security clearance;however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status. The ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy security clearance is required.

Preferred Job Requirements:

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0 is preferred for recent college graduates.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.) and other commonly used business applications or role specific applications.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills - including effective technical writing skills.
  • Able to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment, with strong attention to detail and deadlines. Committed to maintaining high standards of quality.
  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain positive working relationships, both internally and externally.
  • Ability to adapt to evolving project requirements while maintaining compliance with organizational policies, procedures, and applicable regulations. Strong desire to learn and adapt to new challenges.
  • Working knowledge or experience in areas such as network administration, virtualization, network communication architecture, cybersecurity practices, or the use of software development and collaboration platforms (e.g., Azure DevOps, Jira/Confluence) is preferred.
