The Imanishi lab is looking for a full-time Lab Research Assistant, and the ideal candidate should be interested in science and willing to learn new techniques. Our lab uses cutting-edge technology to study the cell biology and neurobiology of retina, and we can share our knowledge and experience to get you more involved in science.
Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities
- Provides assistance with basic laboratory experiments and maintenance tasks such as making buffers and solutions, washing dishware, sterilizing lab equipment via autoclave, and other basic research-related tasks
- Prepares supplies for appropriate use in field experiments
- Sets up experiment apparatuses according to established protocols
- Prepares reports and maintains all relevant documentation
- Provides daily recording in lab notebook
General Responsibilities
- Cleans and maintains laboratory equipment
- Monitors and inventories laboratory supply levels
- Assists with and performs routine laboratory procedures and preparations
- Maintains regulatory paperwork
- Moves and relocates sensitive equipment as needed
- May participate in the disposal of biological or radioactive waste
QualificationsCombinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required- High school diploma or equivalent (such as HSED or GED)
Preferred- Bachelor's degree in biology or a related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Preferred- Some laboratory experience

Working Conditions / DemandsThe role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.

Advertised Salary$32,000 - $38,000 per year, based on experience and internal equity within the department
