Grinding Engineer Manufacturing
ROLE SYNOPSIS
Manufacturing engineers work to support infrastructure-wear components manufacturing operations, enabling production performance that is viable in terms of cost, quality, and delivery, while meeting industrial health, safety, and environmental standards.
The scope of responsibilities for manufacturing engineering includes the following areas of plant operation: press tool manufacturing, pressing, sintering, inspection, grinding, machining, edge preparation, polishing, surface preparation including washing and blasting, identification, and packaging.
The primary focus will be in operations related to the Centerless Grinding, Surface Grinding, and Cylindrical Grinding, process lines. This position will identify opportunities and improve processes through the application of new equipment and systems, improved programming techniques, process evaluation/improvements, material handling, and other engineering-related areas. This position will report directly to the Engineering Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop project plans and assign activities. Conduct progress reviews, implement corrective actions, assure all EHS guidelines and requirements are met and report progress to Engineering manager
- Provide manufacturing support with direct action, assistance, or coordination for quality and productivity improvements, issues and problems, and capital purchases
- Coordinate work of Technical/Professional or Admin/Support roles
- Develop, improve, and standardize manufacturing processes, including writing work instructions, procedures, and control plans
- Work with Production Planning, QA, and Manufacturing to manage preproduction process to planned lead times
- Prepare metrics, progress, status, and reports on key aspects of the assigned area of responsibility
- Evaluate product designs for manufacturability and make improvement recommendations
- Design, define, and implement manufacturing devices, tooling, fixtures, and gauges
- Establish routings and processes and check regularly for accuracy.
- Develop and/or transition new processes to manufacturing
- Perform analysis and develop recommendations in support of achieving business objectives
- Request and coordinate Engineering changes
- Communicate and coordinate with machine manufacturers or 3rd party services to address machine issues
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS - 3 to 7+ years relevant experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field
- Ability to read mechanical and electrical drawings, and process diagrams.
- Experience working with automation, control systems, PLCs, and CNC equipment required.
- Travel up to 10% domestic and international
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS - Hands-on experience working with CNC Grinding Equipment
- Familiarity with tungsten carbide and/or tungsten heavy alloy materials
- Knowledge of physical metallurgy particularly in powdered metals / hard metal /metal alloys / industrial ceramics.
- Understanding of Centerless Grinding, Surface Grinding, and Cylindrical Grinding.
