Senior Power BI Developer

CBIZ is looking for a Senior Power BI Developer to join our development team and support the firm's Business Intelligence and Data Insights reporting and dashboard initiatives. This role will also involve analyzing operational and financial information, creating Power BI visualizations/analytical models, and articulating operational results to help drive operational efficiency and effectiveness.

This is a hands-on role, and Power BI is required, as is a strong understanding of financial reporting, preferably in a professional services/accounting advisory environment.

Essential Functions and Primary Duties

• Work with internal business stakeholders to generate reports and dashboards grounded on well-defined conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  
• Collaborate with the Business stakeholders and development team to create mapping requirements, technical specifications, etc. including entity/attribute definitions, relationships, and conformed dimensions.
  
• Write and optimize SQL code to prepare, join, and validate data from multiple sources, ensuring accuracy and performance in reporting models with experience implementing star/snowflake schemas, surrogate keys, and slowly changing dimensions.
  
• Apply a strong understanding of modern data architectures such as Microsoft Fabric and design scalable dimensional and semantic models aligned to the architecture.
  
• Leverage Power BI and Alteryx to design dashboards and automate data workflows including building performant Power BI tabular models, defining measures (DAX), relationships, hierarchies, and row-level security
  
• Design and test solutions with an emphasis on data model integrity, referential constraints, and documentation (data dictionaries, lineage).
  
• Conduct quantitative and/or qualitative research of information affecting financial and/or business processes and translate findings into domain-specific data models reflecting accounting and firm operations.
  
• Prepare and deliver descriptive, diagnostic, predictive, and prescriptive analytical insights such as reports, ad-hoc queries, financial models, and Power BI dashboards for operational and management reporting at an enterprise scale using well-governed semantic layers and reusable model objects.
  
• Define KPIs/targets and monitor actions coming out of operational reviews to ensure continuous improvement in initiatives designed to drive firm profitability including modeling KPI calculations and standardized dimensional structures for consistent reporting.
  
• Apply data visualization, descriptive and summary statistical techniques for discovery and timely insights through Power BI and other business intelligence platforms underpinned by clean, normalized/denormalized data models for performance and usability.
  
• Leverage internal and external data sources to gather relevant benchmarks for the CPA firm industry and incorporate them into harmonized canonical data models and conformed dimensions.
  

Preferred Qualifications

• 3-5 years of hands-on Power BI development experience
  
• BS degree, Information Systems / Management Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Science, Data Engineering, Finance or Accounting, or similar focus preferred.
  
• Strong understanding of financial reporting, preferably in a professional services/accounting advisory environment.
  
• Proficiency in Power BI and data tools (SQL Server, SSIS).
  
• Must possess analytical skills and be able to comprehend, manipulate, and interpret statistical data.
  
• Ability to present to C-level team members.
  

Minimum Qualifications Required

• College Degree or equivalent required
• 1 year related experience
• Proficient use of applicable technology
• Ability to follow technical instructions and guidelines
• Ability to document daily activities and system functions
• Able to work in team environment
• Demonstrated ability to communicate verbally and in writing throughout all levels of organization both internally and externally
• Ability to travel as required by business and on-call availability
