Overview: Our client, an engineering firm specializing in renewable energy, water, and environmental solutions, is seeking a
Senior Structural Engineer to manage projects, lead multidisciplinary teams, and support the design of hydroelectric, fisheries, and water resource infrastructure. This role combines technical design and project leadership responsibilities, including structural analysis of concrete and steel systems, coordination across engineering disciplines, and direct client interaction throughout project execution. The Senior Structural Engineer will oversee multiple projects, ensure quality and consistency in deliverables, and contribute to team development and long-term client relationships.
This is a full-time position open to candidates located in Portland, OR; Redmond, WA; Essex, CT; Falmouth, ME; or Pittsfield, ME. Pay range: $110,000 - $170,000 DOE

Responsibilities: - Technical Expertise and Design Leadership
- Perform advanced structural engineering analysis and design, applying standard and advanced engineering principles across complex projects.
- Develop and implement improved techniques, procedures, and design solutions that enhance technical capabilities.
- Review analyses and designs to identify gaps, inconsistencies, or opportunities for improvement.
- Apply interdisciplinary engineering knowledge, including regulatory and permitting considerations.
- Serve as a technical lead on multi-discipline projects and may act as a Discipline Group Leader.
- Project Management and Execution
- Manage or support multiple projects, overseeing scope, schedule, and quality of deliverables.
- Coordinate detailed phases of engineering work and ensure alignment across project teams.
- Estimate resource needs, assign tasks, and monitor progress to meet deadlines.
- Provide leadership on project scope, objectives, budgets, and execution strategies.
- Client and Team Collaboration:
- Lead client meetings and serve as a representative of the firm.
- Build and maintain strong client relationships to support ongoing and future work.
- Collaborate with internal teams across disciplines to deliver integrated project solutions.
- Mentor and guide junior staff, including reviewing work for QA/QC and supporting development.
- Business Development and Ownership
- Support proposal development and contribute to competitive positioning of the firm.
- Maintain and grow relationships with existing and prospective clients.
- Contribute to internal and external technical knowledge sharing through training, presentations, or publications.
Requirements: - Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET-accredited program or related field.
- Licensed Professional Engineer (PE).
- Minimum 10+ years of experience in structural engineering.
- Experience with hydroelectric, fisheries, or water resource projects preferred.
- Specialized experience within structural engineering such as seismic design or finite element modeling is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of engineering principles, standards, and codes applicable to structural engineering (e.g., AISC, IEEE, ASME).
- Experience with analysis and design of concrete and steel structures, particularly in and around water environments.
- Experience coordinating with multidisciplinary teams including hydrology/hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and geotechnical engineers.
- Proficiency with structural modeling and design software such as MathCAD, RISA-3D, SAP2000, AutoCAD, and Revit.
- Proficiency with CAD software and discipline-specific engineering tools.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to manage projects and client relationships.
- Experience working with clients and contractors during planning and construction phases.
- Familiarity with regulatory and permitting processes is a plus.
- Proven experience managing project teams, including junior and senior staff, drafters, and coordinators.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects concurrently and meet deadlines.
- Experience serving as a Project Manager and/or Technical Lead on multidisciplinary projects.
- Experience preparing proposals and supporting business development efforts.
- Ability to build and maintain long-term client relationships and contribute to ongoing business development.
- Passion for mentoring and developing junior staff, including reviewing work for quality and consistency.
- Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams across all phases of a project lifecycle.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Ability to develop and expand technical specialties within the discipline and contribute to knowledge sharing.
- Must possess permanent authorization to work in the United States and be able to acquire authorization to work in Canada.
- Must be willing to travel and possess a valid driver's license.
