Job Requirements

Operating under moderate oversight, the Shift Supervisor will collaborate with the nurse manager and assistant nurse manager to deliver leadership and operational assistance during assigned shifts within the department. The Shift Supervisor serves as a subject matter expert and exhibits proficiency in the nursing process to deliver patient care and patient/family education in the Emergency Department setting. The Supervisor will ensure team members are held accountable by enforcing compliance with relevant federal, state, and local regulations, professional standards, hospital policies, procedures, and guidelines. The patient population served ranges from neonates to adult-geriatric individuals. This position includes supervisory responsibilities.



Work Experience

To be eligible for this role, the candidate must hold a Bachelor's Degree in Nursing from an accredited institution or obtain it within two years of employment, and possess a current RN license in the State of Maryland. Successful completion of mandatory hospital, nursing, and unit orientation programs, including but not limited to BCLS certification, is required. Candidates must fulfill all unit-specific certification requirements (PALS, ACLS), with professional certification preferred. The candidate should demonstrate proficiency in learning and utilizing computer systems to manage patient data. Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills are essential. Three to five years of experience in the Emergency Department is preferred, along with proven understanding and support of the care delivery model, throughput initiatives, and commitment to achieving a positive patient experience. Demonstrated leadership capabilities are necessary.

Possesses a clear understanding of department workflow, daily operations, and service line objectives.

Exhibits effective communication skills.

Displays strong organizational abilities.

Capable of fostering an environment that enhances staff productivity, satisfaction, and efficiency.

Skilled in problem-solving, conflict resolution, and handling challenging situations.

Must ensure the confidentiality and protection of all patient and departmental records.
