Overview: ACS Professional Staffing is looking for an employee to work on-site with our client. This Structural Civil Engineer 2 will perform structural analysis and design of substations, transmission line structures, telecommunications structures, and buildings using steel, concrete, wood, and other materials. The role includes evaluating existing structures for increased loads or updated criteria, designing new structures, producing engineering drawings, and developing retrofit solutions. Responsibilities also include fall protection design, seismic evaluation, infrastructure maintenance support, and occasional field inspections and QA activities. The position requires strong knowledge of IBC, ASCE 7 and ASCE 41, experience with structural analysis software (e.g., SAP2000, RISA), CAD tools, and solid critical thinking, time management, and collaboration skills.
This full-time position is located in Vancouver, Washington.
Pay Rate: $37.91 - $52.98

Responsibilities: - Structural design and analysis of substation structures and footings.
- Structures include towers, poles, frames, trusses, pedestals, racks, and others. Materials are predominantly steel and concrete, but other materials such as wood and aluminum are occasionally used. Tasks include:
- Analysis of existing structures for structural adequacy in the case of new/increased loading and/or changed design criteria. Results of analysis will be used by team leads for decisions regarding use existing structure as-is, modify existing structure, or replace.
- Structural design of new structures. Production of installation drawings, design criteria drawings and minor structural detailing.
- Structural design of transmission line structures and footings.
- uses a wide variety of structure types as transmission line supports. These structure types include lattice steel (or aluminum) towers, single or multiple steel pole structures, single or multiple wood pole structures, concrete structures, and others. Tasks include:

- The company has an extensive communication network (predominantly microwave) that is constantly undergoing modification and enhancement. Structure types include lattice steel towers, poles, mounting hardware, and waveguide/ice bridges. Tasks include:
- Analysis of existing structures for structural adequacy in the case of new/increased loading and/or changed design criteria. Results of analysis will be used by team leads for decisions regarding use existing structure as-is, modify existing structure, or replace.
- Occasional retrofit and modification designs.
- Develop and document structural design criteria used by outside vendors to design new communication structures.
- Design and review of fall protection on new and existing structures.
- Building design or analysis work.
- The company has numerous buildings in their systems that are constantly undergoing modification and enhancement. Buildings in the system include single and multiple story structures that may be constructed of wood, structural steel, masonry, brick, concrete, or other materials. Tasks include:
- Analysis of existing structures for modifications and/or retrofits. This task may include structural calculations and written reports.
- Design of new structures.
- Structural and/or seismic evaluations of existing structures. This task may include structural calculations and written reports.
- Design for strengthening existing building vertical and/or lateral load resisting systems.
- Design of anchorage of equipment and nonstructural components.
- Production of various drawings including installation drawings, design criteria drawings, minor detailing drawings and others.
- Design of fall protection anchorage on new and existing buildings.
- Structure maintenance and program sustainment activities.
- Tasks may include:
- Assistance with structural (non-climbing) inspections.
- Structural adequacy assessments.
- Structural retrofit designs (seismic strengthening, remodels, additions, addition of roof loading such as HVAC units, etc.).
- Design of replacements related to aging infrastructure, particularly in the areas of steel corrosion and concrete deterioration.
- Design for replacements, refurbishments, and repairs related to unexpected damage of transmission line and substation structures (e.g. vehicle impacts, animal impacts, landslides, snow loading etc.).
- Assistance with material procurement tasks related to above repairs and replacements.
- Perform occasional Quality Assurance visits to both in-house and outside fabrication shops and provide recommendations for approval / rejection by Federal senior engineers or technical team leads.
- Provide support to Federal structural engineers working in Technology Innovation (TI) and Research and Development (R&D) related activities, which may include actual research or research support, testing and working with testing personnel and vendors, report writing and development, report presentation, travel to meetings, working with industry representatives, field visits, and providing assistance drafting justifications for funding.
- Mark documents and maintain filing system(s), files, emails and records in accordance with compliance requirements. Share and disperse documents only to appropriate personnel (those with a need to know). Mark and maintain all official records in accordance with the Information Security (INFOSEC) and Information Governance & Lifecycle Management (IGLM) standards and procedures. Validate official records are accurately maintained for auditing purposes.
Requirements: - Bachelor's Degree in Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering or a closely-related field is required.
- 5 years of Structural Engineering experience practical engineering experience is required.
- Must have professional knowledge of civil and structural engineering concepts and principles and a practical knowledge of conventional methodology associated with planning, design, and maintenance applicable to public electric utilities, power plants, and transmission systems. Knowledge will be applied to work on structural engineering projects that may be limited in scope and depth or may incorporated to assist with more complex projects.
- Experience with designs using the current International Building Code (IBC) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ACSE) 7 is required.
- Experience with structural analysis software such as SAP2000 and RISA.
- Must be familiar with modern structural analysis techniques.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite products, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
- Ability to identify complex problems and review related information to develop and evaluate options and implement solutions.
- Strong critical thinking; ability to use logic and reasoning to identify strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions to problems.
- Effective time-management skills; perform tasks efficiently and manage work assignments to meet deadlines.
- Experience with Bentley MicroStation or other similar CAD programs and Power Line Systems suite.
- Knowledge of engineering concepts, principles, and practices applicable to components and facilities found on a regional transmission system.
- Knowledge of ASCE 41 Seismic Evaluation and Retrofit of Existing Buildings.
- Valid U.S. Driver's License is required.
