Position Summary
The Tire Technician / Machine Operator is responsible for operating, setting up, troubleshooting, and performing basic maintenance on assigned production equipment. This role supports daily production goals while maintaining high standards of safety, quality, and efficiency. Regular attendance and participation in departmental, production, safety, and company meetings are required.
Key Responsibilities
Production Operations
- Operate assigned production machinery and equipment with minimal supervision.
- Perform routine visual inspections and preventive maintenance on machinery.
- Set up, operate, troubleshoot, adjust, and maintain production line equipment using control panels and mechanical processes.
- Complete tire processing operations, including:
- Initial inspection
- Repair
- Regrooving
- Final inspection
- Pressure testing
- Painting
- Monitor product quality and production performance throughout the process.
Material Handling - Safely operate a forklift to move and transport raw materials and finished products.
Workplace Organization - Maintain a clean, safe, and productive work environment.
- Regularly organize and clean the work area using air wands, vacuums, brooms, and shovels.
- Ensure workstations and surrounding areas remain clear of debris.
Communication - Communicate production, equipment, or quality concerns to the Shift Lead or Supervisor.
- Submit maintenance work orders as needed.
- Assist in identifying and communicating mechanical issues when troubleshooting equipment.
Team Support & Cross-Training - Cross-train in other production roles as needed.
Qualifications Required - High school diploma or GED, or four years of machine operator or tire technician experience.
- Ability to read, write, and speak English.
- Minimum six months of forklift operating experience.
- Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Ability to read and understand units of measurement.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work overtime as needed to meet production requirements.
- Ability to safely perform the physical demands of the position.
Preferred - Previous tire technician experience operating similar equipment.
- Front-end loader experience.
- Valid driver's license (required for employees who may jockey trailers).
- Ability to multitask and adapt in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Work Environment This position works in a manufacturing environment and may be exposed to:
- High-pressure air, steam, and gas systems
- Hazardous fumes and chemicals
- Extreme temperatures and heat variations
- Loud noise levels
- Moving machinery and equipment
- Dust, dirt, and other manufacturing byproducts
Required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) - Safety glasses
- Steel-toe or composite-toe footwear
- Hearing protection
Physical Requirements - Stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequently bend, reach, climb, stoop, push, pull, and perform repetitive motions.
- Lift and carry materials weighing up to:
- 50 pounds occasionally
- 20 pounds frequently
- 10 pounds continuously
- Use hands and fingers to operate tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Maintain adequate vision and hearing to safely perform job duties.
- Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding production and safety matters.
- Demonstrate strong time management and attention to detail.
- Follow all company safety policies and procedures while maintaining a safe work environment.
